If they hadn't received the email, a reasonable decision would have been to send the cars out on normal wets. They used intermediates, so the only possible conclusions a sane person can arrive at is that Todt was ignoring the email, knowing that his IT people could postdate the time of receipt if they were caught (thus giving Mad Max an excuse to back them up) or that Todt is clinically insane. As I said earlier, they not only endangered their own drivers, but every other driver on the track by their desperate dice throwing.

I'm sure Ross Brawn is watching all this and, if he has an ounce of decency, he will decline Ferrari management's inevitable pleas for him to deliver them from their currently parlous state at the hands of the poison dwarf.

Absolute rubbish!!

Well that might be a "convenient" rebuttal Texas, but it hardly adds anything of value to the debate. Hardly the standard I would I expect from a "moderator". Would you care to add an argument, or are you content with your pathetic contribution as it stands?

There’s no doubt it was a very embarrassing indiscretion for Ferrari not to know about an order from the FIA, but let’s be fair about this, they were not the only ones.

I asked one championship-winning team manager what he made of Charlie Whiting’s edict, and he didn’t know what I was on about.

That was at 1245 local time, 15 minutes before the pit lane was about to open, but a good half-hour after the directive was posted on the official notice board.

The engineering brains of another championship-winning team only discovered Whiting’s email by chance as they heard the ‘you’ve got mail’ pinging noise emanate from their laptops as they were leaving to go to the garage.

And it wasn’t until after the race that I discovered the technical director and an engineer from yet another championship-winning team (there aren’t very many of these, but I don’t want to embarrass them, so work it out for yourselves) still didn’t know Charlie had issued this document, and went scurrying off to their laptops to have a look at the inbox.

Maybe Ferrari knew and ignored it and maybe not, only they know. I think the decision they made in either case was that the safety car would only leave the track when the conditions had improved a great deal in which case it would've been an advantage, as it happened though the conditions only improved very slightly before the safety car came in and it wouldn't have worked out for them anyway.

If people lamely accepted other peoples' opinions, this forum would be a barren place indeed. Opinions are the lifeblood of any forum but I'm not sure that "absolute rubbish" can be classified as an "opinion". In the meantime, let me attempt to introduce you to the concept of "adult" usage of English grammar. I believe these rules also apply to currently accepted US standards. First of all, neither disagrees, begins, opinions, wits nor adults should have apostrophies. Additionally "people's" is plural and so the apostrophe should be thus; "peoples'". Other than that there is only one spelling mistake; "there" should be "their". Oops, nearly forgot; "while us adult's sit back" is extremely crass and should read "while we adults sit back". This rule is easily explained by simply leaving out the subject of the phrase, which is "adults"... so we would have, in your version; "while us sit back" rather than the correct "while we sit back".

Perhaps you didn't pay attention in school, nevertheless, I am very happy to help out and, if you would like me to continue to give you useful hints, just let me know.

If Ferrari are so disgusted about the matter then why aren't they putting in an official complaint:

[i]Todt said in his post-race briefing that the team would not be making a protest following the confusion.

Di Montezemolo admits he may have taken the matter further, but says he trusts the team management’s decision.

“I would have preferred a different solution – I am not happy about this result,â€

Well they did query it

"FIA amend communication procedures after Ferrari query

The FIA is to back up emails to teams with written communications after Ferrari started the Japanese Grand Prix on the wrong tyres, having not received the relevant notification in time.

Both Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa took the start on standard wet tyres, despite a directive ordering all teams to use extreme wets. Ferrari said they only received the email after the start, forcing both drivers to make costly unscheduled pit stops.

After Ferrari subsequently queried the procedure, the FIA - who did not penalise the team for starting on the wrong tyres - issued the following statement:

“A communication from the Stewards requiring all competitors to fit extreme wet-weather tyres for safety reasons was sent to all teams by email at 12:35 hrs local time today. Save for Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro, all competitors have confirmed that they received the email at 12:37 hrs.

“It is understood that Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro did not receive the email at the same time as other competitors. As a result, Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro was the only team which did not start on extreme wet-weather tyres.

“The 2007 Formula One Sporting Regulations (Art. 15.1) state that in exceptional circumstances Stewards or Race Director may give instructions to Competitors by means of special circulars in accordance with the Code and these circulars will be distributed to all competitors who must acknowledge receipt.

“At a meeting of the Formula One Sporting Working Group held in Monaco on 7th December 2006, all teams agreed to an electronic distribution system to ensure that all competitors received communications simultaneously, with no time advantage for a team by virtue of their location in the pit lane. This system has been used throughout the current championship year.

“To avoid any recurrence of today's problem the agreed method of using electronic communications will continue to be used but in future will be backed up by the traditional method of written communication.â€

As far as I can see it was a badly calculated move by Todt to put one over on the rest of the field. They were betting that conditions would rapidly improve. As it happens, they didn't, so Ferrari would have to have brought in their drivers for a tyre change anyway, ergo they were penalised by their own stupidity, not by the stewards or the FIA. Ferrari cynically sent their drivers out on inappropriate tyres, not only endangering their drivers but also every other driver on the track, a point conveniently overlooked by the FIA and all the Ferrari afficionados on this forum, who delight in getting their knickers in a twist about Hamilton "brake-dancing", whatever that's supposed to signify.

This is BS and you know it! Cynically sent their drivers out on inappropriate tires - geez, how polemic can you get? Last time I checked it's the driver who has the last word - if he doesn't think it's safe or he can handle it safely, he opts for the safer solution - even at the Evil Empire Ferrari.

A note to some of you most zealous McLaren/LH defenders aka Ferrari bashers (not sure where the splinter group of ardent FA supporters falls here, but they are included anyway): many of your posts are not only so outlandish and one-dimensional it's almost comical (though I've stopped laughing since it's become very tiresome), but they are also extremely repetitive. On and on and on the to be expected drivel and venom are oozing out of your statements. Just as an example, McLarenFan's opinion from another thread (Lewis should thank Ferrari):
"That's just it. Ferrari are OVERRATED. Let's face it, apart from being the oldest team in Formula One, what have they done? Teams such as Lotus have given far more to the sport than Ferrari ever have or ever will."
What is the point of such a moronic post? It just shows a lot of anger and suppressed envy - it's almost like the extreme and violent homophobia demonstrated by certain people to in fact cover up their own tendency to homosexuality - Ferrari bashers are Ferrari fans in the closet (and they don't know it or won't admit it to themselves).:wink:
At any rate, I'd appreciate it if you guys and gals could stop frothing at your mouth and refrain from stereotypically repeating unfounded accusations and ridiculous statements nobody other than your own ilk is interested in reading - this in favor of a more substantive discussion of the sport we all (I hope) love. 8)

Texas, would you mind conforming your sig dimensions to the forum limits?

madbrad,
I will be more than happy to do so when the siggy is limited to a specific "pixel size" and not the number of character's, unless I have missed something? I have searched and found no imposed "pixel size" limit to one's signature pic.
I am awaiting a reply from the admin for his input but until then who is to say I am not conforming? If you can lead me to the correct info/rule's pertaining to this I would appreciate it.

I'm not in anyway trying to be or sound like an a$$hole or be disrespectful of your request just so you know ok, it's not personel.

As a fellow whose first, second and third languages are not English, I still beg to differ here: your suggestion applies only if you were talking, e.g., about more than one body of enfranchised citizens of states/countries - there are some other cases, but none applies here.

Why does almost every thread resort to correcting someone's grammar when there is nothing else to say in the argument? :?
