ESPNF1 Russia's new Formula One track, based around the home of this year's Winter Olympics in Sochi, is 91% complete, according to the race promoter.
The inaugural Russian Grand Prix will take place on October 12 on a circuit that loops around the Sochi Olympic Park. The pit buildings and medical centre are completed and the main grandstand is in place but not yet finished. Race promoter Oleg Zabara said development on the site is going to plan.
"Construction of the autodrome in Sochi keeps moving forward," he told Reuters. "All works are being carried out according to the schedule. The racing track is 91% complete. Everything is according to plan, and there aren't any problems during Olympic period."
Zabara is confident the first Russian Grand Prix would attract a decent-sized crowd.
"We expect to sell 55,000 tickets," he added. "We are already collecting pre-orders ... The Russian Grand Prix is a mega event and a catalyst for the development of a motorsport community in Russia and Sochi."
