I like the circuit, it's not bad, but I know someone whose been to that one and to Silverstone and says there's just no comparison. The atmosphere at Silverstone is amazing , there was non at Shanghai.

Andrew, ^^^^ those reasons.

If I didn't get my annual fix of Silverstone I'd become a gibbering wreck! :spaz: I nearly did when Donnington was mooted, and it's on my doorstep!

Those reasons could be applied to any circuit that's been around for a while.

Yes, I think the older traditional tracks are generally better.

Some of the newer ones are also better than Silverstone.

I wouldn't say they're better, different favourable points. Austin and Istanbul Parc are good tracks. But the history and atmosphere I'd say move Silverstone ahead.

History is irrelevant as is the atmosphere unless you have the disposable income to fork out a small fortune to attend a GP. From what I've seen, Monza seems to have the best atmosphere of all GP's.

Silverstone looks to have all the joys of standing up to your waist in mud for 3 days, eating poorly cooked burgers, drinking warm flat beer and singing God Save the Queen every half hour. :hehe:

Hmmmm, not what Silverstone is like for me and I've been every year but one since 96. Last year was very muddy, but not at the actual track, in the car parks and camp sites. Generally its sunny and sunbathey. I've never once stood up for God Save the Queen and the food I take is delicious. If you don't want to take your own food there's a large variety of different food at the track...not so at the newer tracks. And the atmosphere is important, it can be electric, adds another dimension.

You're not selling Silverstone to me. I still think it is one of the worst tracks on the F1 calender. Donington would have been a far better track for the British GP as it has a better mix of corners and isn't nearly all flat.

I guarantee I could change your mind if you came to Silverstone!! I've watched moto GP live at Donnington and it is a good track but I think it's too small and there's no infrastructure to support a modern day GP . It was never going to work not without massive alterations and restructuring.

Andrew is right it is far too expensive to attend a gp. I flew to the 1st turkish gp with hotel and tickets it came to less than a weekend pass at Silverstone (I live in oxford so would not need hotels etc)

My weekend grandstand pass cost just over £200 for Silverstone. It cost more than that for flights when I went to Turkey, though now a cheaper airline goes there, but still with hotels in Istanbul......... It was a fantastic weekend though in my favourite city.

A weekend GA ticket is £165 for 3 days racing. I personally don't think that's a big cost, not for a yearly outlay, and not for watching something you truly love.
