Brundle and particularly Coulthard show bias, ive said this before. They didnt even debate a penalty for Massa, only for Lewis. I think the bias in F1 is disgusting. Why is coulthard reporting on a race when he is employed by one of the competitors?
Not saying I disagree with this, however what you're pointing out is relatively minor compared to both positive and negative bias that commentators / analysts in the past have displayed. In particular, everyone I know always talks about how brilliant James Hunt was with his sharp wit and analytical skills. I agree, however I never view him in a positive light because whilst he was commentating he went on a one man crusade to not just criticise, but to destroy the career of one man - Riccardo Patrese. He was doing it on false grounds because Hunt believed that Patrese was responsible for the death of another racer years beforehand, when it was subsequently proven that Patrese had nothing to do with the incident in question. It didn't stop him from letting his bias getting in the way of the facts though. On the other hand, Murray Walker is a legend, but the amount of pro Mansell bias he (completely admittedly) displayed in incidents that were clearly Mansell's fault was ridiculous. He won't deny that which is entirely to his credit.
What's my point? Well sure Coulthard might display bias at times, as other commentators have in the past. It isn't right but:
1. It isn't anything new;
and
2. It doesn't take away from that individual's skills as a commentator or analyst, or the ability for the viewer to enjoy it UNLESS they
CHOOSE to focus only on circa 1% of what that person says and does for an entire race weekend.
I'd rather sit back and enjoy Brundle and Coulthard whilst they are commentating as they are the best combination we've had since Murray Walker retired a decade ago when he was likewise working with Brundle.
