Fraffy - do not take on a moderator. You'll come off worst. They have powers beyond the ability of us plebs.:hehe:

You guys are not plebs! you are just mortals  Also if we did not use our powers for good we would end up in Admins dungeon.

I actually had to use Urban Dictionary to look up what a pleb was. No coincidence that it perfectly describes Eddie Irvine's behavior and choice of words in this scenario.

There, back on topic.

You cannot be sure if he actually knows about DRS or not...believe it or not JV himself admitted he has stopped following F1. Just because they raced in the sport doesn't mean they're diehard fans like us who follow the updates and goings on in a sport.

Let me ask, if you left your previous company are you going to keep looking up on it for its updates and goings on? These guys who raced in the sport have left (and most of the time not by their own free will, they were forced to leave) so harbouring ill feelings and shutting out the sport might not be uncommon!

Eddie is being Eddie...trying to be a smartarse and most of the time he is. This time it's not very good however, failed to make me laugh. Tsk tsk. :D

I agree with Eddie; I didn't see the interview so I cant comment on his manner. I wouldn't go as far as what Irvine did but I do believe that KERS and DRS are technological solutions for a problem that didn't exist 10 years ago; reduce the amount of aero allowed in F1; reduce the power of braking systems, less turbulent air and bigger braking zones, make a return to h-gate gearboxes to add the lottery of driver mistakes, let's put the onus back on driver ability, a steering wheel; three pedals and a manual gearbox, let's see what the young guns really have!

Irvine is a right tool. I had the opportunity to meet him once and he told me in his own words he doesn't even bother to follow the sport any more. So, why he is now back in the paddock, yet trash talking F1, is a total mystery to me. Unless he is just attention seeking!

I posted this in the GP thread but it's more suited here. So for anyone who missed me posting it before, watch from 6:15 onwards for the Irvine interview.

His manner was just typical Eddie irvine, maybe slightly tipsy. He did have a wee bit of a rant but it was no worse than your comment. Just stated his opinion then took his leave. I don't know him if calling DRS EPS was a deliberate mistake or if he was trying to be funny but it is clear he does not like KERS and DRS.

As for your ideas above, I could not agree more. Sadly this could be seen as a step backwards and maybe even a move towards making F1 a spec. series but it would certainly sort the wheat from the chaff!

Entertaining... not reaaally funny, I think it takes a lot more brain power to make up the EPS acronym on the spot than he could muster under the influence, so yeah, I think he just didn't know or better yet, doesn't care. Good for him, at that moment he still comes off as an @ss.

I agree and disagree. I think the F1 weekend should be split into two races. a Spec Race and a Constructors Race. Im against regulating the technologies and ideas of a constructors whos Job is to make the best car in the field. I mean it wouldnt be F1 anymore it would be an extension of the INDY series. Contructors use F1 to show there automotive power not glamorize the best driver. Alot of the technology we see on cars now were trickled down from F1 so why would any one want F1 to:

"reduce the amount of aero allowed in F1; reduce the power of braking systems, less turbulent air and bigger braking zones, make a return to h-gate gearboxes to add the lottery of driver mistakes"

We didnt have that problem "10 years ago" (more like 20 years ago) because we didnt have the same technologies and materials afforded today. I love every bit of F1 even if they went all electric and thats because I can trust that Im watching 24 of the best drivers in the world duke it out in 24 of the best and fastest cars in the world.

From the title of this thread, I presumed it was about MSC blocking HAM at Monza.

IF DRS and CURSE were responsible for bringing excitement back to F1 -- and I will not conceded they do -- the FIA deserve no credit for it because the whole dearth of overtaking was their creation in the first place. Allow the teams to design their engines as they will and to contract for their own tyres, bring back in-race refueling, throw out CURSE, mandate smaller, simple, single-element wings, require a low nose, ban the use of materials in the construction of the front wing that are likely to produce punctures in the event of collision, and remove all telemetry from the car not directly related to the safety of the driver. Then you WILL see a return to the epic driving duels of old, and without any artificial flavourings, colorouings, added salt or MSG.
