So what would a team do if one driver consistently gave better results but the other driver consistently gave better feedback? Who woud they then design the car around??

Well unless they thought the driver with better feedback once they dominated development would get better results, I guess make the feedback driver be open about feedback with the other driver.

I think that would be a given in a good team.

the chassis i'm sure are one size fits all.... except Montoya, maybe he needed some extra space

:yikes::hehe:

Yes :yikes: indeed. I missed that snide comment Flea. Well he just didnt any way.

You would design the car to suit the driver who delivers the results, as thats what counts... simple.

I've experienced first hand, favouritism in a team. You naturally migrate to the quicker driver for your feedback, and testing / development. They don't have to tell you much, better, worse, or same, is enough when trying different settings, along with the stopwatch.

We had 2 drivers that were really cool guys, the 'slower' one more so. Both got the same car preparation, etc, but if we had only 1 new part available, the quicker guy got it. Fortunately the second driver was smart enough to see it, and didn't moan and groan. In return, he really earned the respect of everyone as a team player.

Cheers,

Pat

I’m curious to see what people’s thoughts are on this.

Different access to parts and technology? Or is it due to the customisations for each driver? Or is it simply down to driver ability?

I think youve made a really clever point, although you might not of explained it as well as you could.

Is making your chances of winning as big as possible the same as favouring a driver? Fernando moving voer in germany? whats to say that isnt the team favouring their chances of winning a title, rather then favouring a driver.

Its never been my forte FRA.. :)

I brought up the point from the aftermath of the Aus GP and the way Webber reacted. I thought he acted like it was clear that there was a difference between his and Seb's car - which isn't news, but people (who don't think favouritism exists) highlights a good point in that, why would RBR purposely disadvantage one of their cars...doesn't make sense. Why would any team do that? Surely availability of parts isn't too much of an issue in this sport?!

When there is a "clear" driver in a team that could challenge the championship....i can see why the 2nd driver would suddenly have "problems with tyre degredation", until the 1st driver passes at least - but otherwise, from a team's perspective why wouldn't they want the best for both drivers?

Or is it more about marketing at the end of the day?

yes...i've got a small chip on my shoulder being a webber fan.:banghead:

The gap between Seb and Mark in Aus was way more than being short an upgrade piece. Unless something on Mark's car was broken and was going unnoticed. Even then a broken anti roll bar in Monaco did set Seb back by nearly that margin 0.8 is like losing half your front wing. I think mark needs to have a look in the mirror rather than at Seb's car and I suspect he knows that. Looking to see him back up there in Sepang!

I'm not sure, but I think 2 years ago Sebastian had a similar problem in the first few races and Webber was beating him. After 3 or 4 races, they found out the chassis had a fault (slightly twisted) and gave Seb a new monocoque, and he started giving Webber hell.

Maybe its Webber's turn now?
