Huge Pods previous article about Spain was really dire

At the front, Nico Rosberg reeled Lewis Hamilton in with a cold inevitability whose chill Hamilton would have distinctly noted even in his warm cockpit. It spoke of the latent speed that the German can conjure from that most nimble of machines, and of his arguably superior tyre management skills.

Nicos superior tyre management skills? this season? really? What about his superior fuel management skills?

I actually left a comment pointing out the tyre stats from each this season, however it hasnt been published, which is strange considering there are zero comments so far

oh well!

I've just left a comment on the current article. We'll see if it appears. A previous comment I made did appear once before.

What amazes me regarding Monaco is the fact that there's a high likelihood that Nico made the quali move deliberately, but who's getting the flack, Lewis. Can you imagine the furore had the roles been reversed. :banghead:

Rosberg is a very good driver and clearly a formidable opponent. Possibly the biggest challenge over a single lap Hamilton has faced since Alonso and before that Vettel in GP2. Let’s not forget this is his 4th year with Mercedes which gives him a slight advantage on the inner workings of the team. However, when you have a superior car over the rest of the field, racecraft governs. Rosberg’s advantage in Bahrain on the faster soft tyre was more significant than anything his so called superior tyre management would’ve given him yet he couldn’t pass or when he did he couldn’t make it stick. I wonder why

The thing is that the 2 races where Nico was as fast if not faster than Lewis, Lewis beat him and made a point of telling everyone that Nico was faster. 'I should be way ahead of him, I should be miles down the road, we shouldnt be close on track'
Its obvious Nicos using his advantage of knowing the team and the system better. We heard that at one of those races - Bharain, Nico was able to be that close and challenge because he was using the highest engine mode and Lewis wasnt. Then in the Spain race where the alternative tyre strategy worked better for Nico and had him on the better tyre at the end catching up - Lewis used the highest one in defence.

So far so good, makes sense. Then comes Monaco, obviously they had made some kind of truce - 'no more underhand tricks boys' and then Nico makes the 'mistake' - So all is not as it seems, and the team will know the situation, and the comments from Niki, toto, Paddy suggests 'Nico's got no chance in the battle and has to resort to whatever he can, and that Lewis will just have to pipe down and endulge him as there wont be more chances like that going forward'

And Lewis needs to make his fans know he hasnt let them down by been beaten by Nico for the first time.

Good thing about Lewis making a fuss is that the squeaky wheel gets the oil, and it will be difficult for Nico to compete off track now with all eyes open from Deiter down to Paddy.

Cant wait for the next 6 or 7 races to unfold

Anyone read the latest article by Hugh Podmore on the news section of this site?

I've never rated the guy but this is the pits. He's just made up a load of drivel. I wonder how many people get put off the site by that sort of biased crap passing for a news article? Makes me ashamed to be associated with it...which is sad.

You've got a good point there RC. Its an embarrassment to the site that his biased drivel is under "News".

Oh well, if it makes him happy.

it's these kinds of examples that might lead one to believe he can lose his focus.

Might if that's your only hope/desire, but I think Lewis isn't the only driver that's ever questioned a pit lane decision via the radio is he?

To be totally honest, I couldn't care less if Hamilton stays focussed or if Rosberg gets the title.
NEITHER of them are on my radar as far as "hope/desire" for winning the WDC goes!!
So you needn't be looking for me to turn into a boogey(wo)man that chases down either of them!!

Look, I do understand what it's like to sit on pins and needles (see Alonso 2010, 2012; Kimi 2007;
Massa 2008)! Hoping that your bubble doesn't burst, waiting for it to burst. I get it! And, you won't
get used to it and you won't be able to "breathe" until that last finish line is crossed.

Just enjoy the ride and don't get tied up into knots, just because someone isn't sharing that bubble! :wavey:

...They say "never meet your heroes, they'll only disappoint you" they also say that you never really know someone until you have to work through a problem with them.

 Sage advice!!

Found this from someone who knew both Hamilton and Rosberg, in their karting days, their manager, Dino Chiesa.
Apparently, he still speaks with Nico; but, rates Hamilton the better driver of the two:

wrote:">Rosberg does Hamilton's 'dirty work' - kart boss

Fourteen years on, little has changed between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, according to their former karting boss.

In 2000, the pair were teammates at mbm.com, the kart team sponsored by Mercedes-Benz and McLaren.

It was run by Dino Chiesa, who told Germany's Bild am Sonntag newspaper on Sunday: "On his fast lap, Lewis was always a little faster than Nico. He knew it well and he knows it today.

"But Rosberg has always worked harder. He (Rosberg) has always done the dirty work - the setup, working with the mechanics and the engineers.

"Lewis has never worked as hard as Nico behind the scenes," said Chiesa, when asked about the past in the context of the pair's massive falling-out as they battle for the world championship in 2014 as Mercedes teammates.

"One of them has the talent, the other is fast but is more of a thinker. And then Lewis cuts a piece of Nico's cake and sells it as his own."

Chiesa said Briton Hamilton and German Rosberg also got up to their 'psychological games' in karts all those years ago.

"Yes, but of course on a different scale," he revealed. "At the time I was the team manager, but I was also like a counsellor or a father.

"I remember some angry phone calls from the hotel reception. Sometimes they had destroyed the room. It started with a thrown cushion, then a blanket, then the mattress was out on the street.

"It was all fun except that I always paid the bill at the end," he laughed.

Chiesa said Monaco 2014, however, was slightly different.

"Lewis behaved a bit like a young, angry Italian," he surmised. "Nothing is ever his fault. He always thinks others are out to hurt him.

"But you have to understand this is a German team with a German driver who has been there for three years already. It feels to Lewis as if the team is a bit more friendly to Nico. It's normal."

Chiesa said he still talks regularly to Rosberg, but not to Hamilton.

"It is difficult to get to him," he said. "His management is not very helpful. It may be good for a Hollywood star, but not for a formula one driver. These people give the impression of him being a superstar.

"But a motor sport race is not a show, it's hard work. So I think it's right that Niki Lauda brought him back down to earth," said Chiesa, perhaps referring to Hamilton's smaller entourage and apparently clearer focus in 2014.

Meanwhile, former F1 driver Alex Zanardi has tipped Hamilton to beat Rosberg to the title this year.

"I only want to say one thing about their rivalry," the Italian is quoted by La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Nico is a very strong driver, but Lewis is a champion."

That was brilliant reading, Sagi. Thank you. Not sure if you are aware, Dino Chiesa is one of the "Gods" in karting so it was nice to see his reflection of the pair in yesteryear. :)

I wonder if next year when we see the usual "which team has the strongest driver pairing" will the Lewis/Nico duo come up to the top. II think that Nico has pushed Hamilton more than any other recent team mate which is good for everybody.

Thanks for sharing that!!

I thought it was great to see the "human" side of Hamilton and Rosberg.
Too often, we look "only" at what they do on track and make judgements
of who and what they are; but, in reality, each comes from a different
place in their approach.

Good to know that in Chiesa's comments he seemed to balance his view
on the two of them, without resorting to statistics and results.
