No. This engine made its debut in 1996.

Pretty sure the 3.0l Merc engine first appeared in a McLaren in 1995, but anyway, moot point in the context of this question.

No, you're right about the Merc engine but it was the engine in question that made its debut in 1996.

This ex-F1 driver had the distinction of being hit not once, but twice, during a race weekend by a car other than a race car. Who is he?

It's probably completely wrong but it made me think of possibly the worst ever F1 driver, Taki Inoue when he got hit by the safety car.

Yes in Practice he got hit by a Renault Clieo safety car doing a demonstration run while Inoue was being towed back to pits. The worst part was that the impact put his car into a roll and Inoue wasn't wearing his seatbelt. A chunk was taken out of helmet. Scary stuff.

I'm so happy I have finally been able to contribute to this thread, thanks to Spankyham's answer.

You guys can now carry on... Good day to you! :wavey::hehe:

Thank you both, Spanky and Azza.

He was hit and rolled at Monaco while being towed back to the pits during practice as Azza said and then again during the race in Hungary when he stepped into the path of a marshal's car while trying to extinguish his engine fire. His 'Footwork' wasn't the best...

Your go, Spanky.

Sorry guys, travelling ATM so bugger all time to get online and do fun stuff.

OK, so here's my question....

Chris Amon once refused to race until his entry number was changed. What number was it he wanted changed and why?

I cut and pasted this from Wiki:

He qualified and ran second in the 1970 Monaco Grand Prix until his suspension failed twenty laps from the finish. This was the race where Amon refused to drive unless his entry number was changed from 18 – the number under which his then team-mate Lorenzo Bandini had crashed and died in Monaco – to 28.

So you probably shouldn't ask such easily Wikiable questions LOL.

Well done Madbrad! There's no problem with researching using Wiki or anything else. I always thought the idea of the questions was to learn, and, you researched and learned something new - so all good in my book.

Over to you....

Oh I never even thought of the part about the answerer making a question. I'm really bad at that. I know so little about F1 history. But I will try to come up with something. But anyone else can/should put up a question in the meantime.
But you make a good point, I looked it up because I wanted to know the answer, and I am now slightly less stupid because of that.

And Andrew, Yes, Lots of love. You couldn't imagine how much.

OK nevermind, I have one:
Between the years 63 and 87, Lauda, Stewart, E. Fittipaldi, N. Piquet and Clark, in no particualr order, share a certain distinction. What is it?
