I think in Australia the old Gold Coast Indy event (which now has A1GP onboard since IRL doesnt want to come down under) would jump on the chance to get the race there! the track is rather boring but it would be one hell of an event!

It would be cool, it would take money away from the IRL :D

But theres almost no place to pass!

I heard Simon Gillett on the radio earlier today. I'm feeling a bit sorry for Donington in all of this. They've signed a deal with FOM, so could be forced to run a bastardised version of Formula One, after going to all the (very extreme) hassle of getting the venue ready for what they thought would be the highest category of racing.

First of all Mosely should be flogged for the mess he has the sport in. :whip: Having said that, This is the best time FOTA could pick to actually break away and start a new series. It could happen! A new Series could in fact run at any FIA utilised circuits as non of the circuits have FIA F1 exclusive contracts. They can run as many other series as they want. There are enough first rate circuits like Silversone Suzuka and Hockenhiem Or my personal favourite Imola not being used by F1,available.Monaco could be the only bone of contention.
It is also worth remmembering who owns the open wheel formula feeder teams. The BBC could easily argue its way out of a contract with a sport which has fundamentally changed its current form from when the broadcasting contract was signed. Also Bernie is remaining very quiet right now, what is the little git up to now eh? P1 (Premier One) could be up and racing next march!

thats probably why mosley has ruined the sport...he wants the flogging!

Premier One sounds like a credit card name. No thanks. ;)

Indeed. Not too keen on that.

Grand Prix Racing Championship suits me fine.

Monaco could be the only bone of contention.

Nope: SPEED TV says that some racetracks publicly stated that they won't run Formula One races w/o Ferrari and they mentioned Monaco specifically :P

so basically everything is going to stay the same apart from the name and the governing body....

I think I recall some of the authorities of the Monaco Grand Prix saying that they would follow the best racing series; i.e., FOTA's breakaway series.

From F1 Live:

Another TV broadcaster has indicated its interest in joining the 'breakaway eight' in leaving Formula One at the end of the year.

It has already emerged that Sky Italia and Britain's BBC are concerned about being left in an official F1 series devoid of the star names.

Germany's RTL is also worried about its contract. "We would have to examine whether there is an exit clause," spokesman Matthias Bolhofer told the DPA news agency.

A spokesman for Premiere said the German Pay-TV broadcaster will also be keeping ‘close contact’ with the relevant parties in the midst of the political crisis.

From F1 Live:

Bernie Ecclestone will shortly also commence legal action against the FOTA members threatening to set up a breakaway series.

The governing FIA on Friday announced that it is suing the eight teams, with a particular emphasis on Ferrari, but Max Mosley said at Silverstone that it is Ecclestone's impending actions they should be most worried about.

"Bernie, as the commercial rights holder, will sue them too," the FIA President told the Mirror.

Mosley said the FIA's action will focus on breach of contracts and also competition law violations.

"There is a quite a lot of money at stake for us but for Bernie it is a massive amount of money," he said. "The teams will all owe him money."

Mosley said every team in the FOTA group has been paid commercial revenues for the coming seasons in advance, so Ecclestone will be asking for it back.

"In the case of one team, that would be in excess of £100m pound. In every other case, it is tens of millions of pounds," he said.

The political crisis has been characterised by some as a push for the heads not only of Mosley, but Ecclestone too. But Mosley insists it has little to do with the individual figureheads.

"They want to grab the money and the sporting power. Well, I won't let them grab the sporting power and Bernie won't let them grab the money," he insisted.

From F1 Live:

Another circuit has put its name forward as a potential venue for a round of FOTA's breakaway world championship.

Far from worrying about the major F1 teams' war with the governing FIA, the boss of the new Abu Dhabi track sees the situation as a potential opportunity to host a second major annual event at the Yas Marina Circuit.

The purpose-built track is due to host its inaugural Grand Prix in November.

"This (the crisis) won't affect Yas," Richard Cregan, Chief Executive of Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management, told the local newspaper The National.

"We might have two races in the future.
We will never not consider any kind of an event. In the case of that (a breakaway series) we will look at that event the same as any other," he added.
