Does anyone remember Peter Windsor mentioning while walking the grid that Bernie has now said that there will possibly be two US based F1 teams bringing the total to three new teams for 2010? Oh and USF1's name has now been officially changed to USGPE (US Grand Prix Engineering) due to an objection from Bernie, who claims to own the rights to the term F1.

Read in another thread that the 'objection' was based on the fact that USF[one] wasn't an F1 team yet. It sounds like if they are approved to be on the grid, they will be there as USF1.

On that note, you will find Nas-Car one of the hardest forms of racing Around. You will find all the F1 hasbins try to turn to NasCar and can't hack it. Montoya is the only i know of, American form of racing is allot better in my eyes for the fact of they aren't bunt on a cross every time they make a mistake. When Jenson fails he will be burnt again by the British press.

What makes NASCAR entertaining is that you don't know who's going to win after the first round of pit stops. Also, having 43 cars on track vs 20 and having multiple "Safety Car" periods per race to re-group the field definitely increases the competition of wheel-to-wheel racing. Positions frequently change on-track and there's always something happening, even if it is someone turning left better than someone else.

Just to be clear, I get up and plan my weekends around the F1 calendar. I watch NASCAR when I'm flipping around the channels and it's on and the Red Sox or Tiger aren't playing and SpeedTV has some crap programming on.

Everything you mention is what makes NASCAR an artificial race, it's merely a form of entertainment. A real race let's the fastest car and driver win, without race control interfering with how far ahead the fastest car can be.

IMHO, that's a bit too cynical. F1 is not always on the up & up itself. Different teams have different rules. Penalties are handed out without any consistent rhyme or reason. For every 90 minutes of racing, there are two weeks of soap opera drama and once the first few laps of a race are in the books, the field is a choo-choo train until pit stops.

My hope for any US-based F1 team is that they can bring some of the NASCAR crowd over to our side of the fence and appreciate the pinnacle of motorsport.

U.S. based F1 teams and the return of races to Canada & the U.S. would give Formula 1 more exposure in America. How many families with two to four kids can spend the race weekend away from home for a F1 race. I am a die-hard F1 fan who rarely watches NASCAR but, to grow a fan base F1 needs more family appeal.

Peter Windsor was saying the teams base in Charlotte have completed CAD drawings of next years car and were soon starting to get it manufactured for scaled wind tunnel testing and CFD sims.

dunno how they can be that advanced considering the 2010 regs are still up in the air!

Yeh i thought that, but they did say they had 3 different designs perhaps one within budget cap (flexible aero) another outside the cap and another based on 2009 regs with a larger fuel tank?

Hey from another statesman, here is my two cents. I totally agree that Indy is a horrible circuit for F1, unfortunately if we want a race back here, we have to be able to support a large crowd, and there are not that many circuits other than ovals that allow for the numbers that would be needed. The only places I would want to see another US race at are both road circuits, Detroit and Long Beach (Denver would be cool too because I live there, but I don't realistically see that happening). Long Beach has a history in F1 and I think could be taken seriously, but its location is not really going to draw any new crowd amongst the US population. Really we just need a new permanent road course built specifically around the specifications and needs of F1, but quite frankly I don't see that happening... ever.

On a side note for F1 fans everywhere else in the world, NASCAR is very popular in the SOUTH, I live in Colorado, dead center, NASCAR is not big here at all. We do have the Pikes Peak Hill Climb, but for the most part, we are racing starved. Whether F1 would be popular here is hard to say, but I think if it stands any chance at a second go in the US, it would be wise to avoid the NASCAR hicks as that has proven to be unsuccessful, and go for something new in the northern US where you have a fresh audience.

On a side note, The Turkish Grand Prix is being shown on FOX this weekend. Usually its shown on SPEED, which does not get to that many people, FOX is huge and hopefully it does well so we can get F1 on bigger channels more often.

I think F1 in the US will be fine if it sticks on the coasts. I mean, 300,000 people show up race weekend for the motogp event at Laguna Seca, so I think the GP would be fine in California. But I think it would probably be fine on the East coast too, but I prefer it to be in Cali so that I dont have to travel far.

I also think the fact that Montreal is kinda close to indy, hurt the attendance. Cuz honestly if you live in New York, would'nt you rather go to Montreal over Indy?

I hope that NASCAR fans stay far away from F1, I prefer not to watch races with a bunch of drunk hicks waiting for crashes. Yes I am stereotyping and no I don't care.

Get F1 to Longbeach...
What's this about Cleveland wanting to build an Oval on their runway track and have an oval race one day and a circuit one the next? BAH!

Anyways F1 in the USA. Then I can sing more Springsteen :P

I actually meant to say "overweight drunk hicks", please forgive the error.
I'm American myself, pretty sure I can stereotype my fellow Americans without being a hater.
