How is it not Bernies fault? He is responsible for the large price he makes the governments pay to host GPs these costs are then passed on to the ticket prices.
Bernie doesn't care where races are held only who can pay the most to host them.
If the Governments are not happy with the amount charged for hosting a GP then they should learn to negotiate better. Simple as that.
MrE owns the rights to F1 so basically he can charge as much or as little as he wants as long as the demand is there from countries who want to host an F1 race. Ultimately, the Turkish Government have agreed to host an F1 race that is not a financial success. As such, it is pointless to keep a loss making event on the calendar, especially when there are other venues which will generate a decent income. Very basic and simple economics really.
Just one?Not really.I went to watch the race there and the first turn was also awesome. Some people watched the race at other stands say that they understood Turn 8 wasnt the only good thing about the track. And there might be less attandence but Turkish people who attend there have the soul of being an F1 fan and doesnt deserve their country out of the calendar.
I’ve watched every Turkish GP since 2006 and to be honest I’ve found the races largely boring, just personal preference, but I would much rather see a race at Imola.
Do you know of a thing called Market Research?, the poor turnout in Turkey is entirely the misjudgement of Ecclestone, the assumption you make that if Turkey want to keep their race they should get people to go doesnt make sense. The Turks dont care about losing their race on the whole, everyone else does cause its a good track.
The poor turn out is also a misjudgement by the Turkish Government thinking that there will be enough of an interest in F1 for them to hold a race for the long term. Clearly there is not or else the race would not be under threat.
Maybe if ticket prices were lower, more people may go. The only way to do this is some how get more people interested - which I assume reasonable attempts have already been made to do this. The Turkish GP has not been enough of a fruitful endeavor for anyone really.
The way I see it is the Turk’s have agreed to pay MrE however much it is (ok some of this amount will come from the public money but the aim will be to have this amount as low as possible) per race so the ticket prices have to high enough to cover this sum. Obviously if only 1 ticket is sold then that one person is going to pay a hell of a lot more than if 100,000 tickets are sold.
Ultimately, the Turkish Government have a signed a contract and by virtue of this have agreed to all costs, clauses etc. If they have not carried out sufficient forward planning or understood what they were signing then that is their problem. It is an ugly truth that will upset a lot of people but conversely it will be good news to others who will be wanting to take Turkey’s place on the calendar.
