Ok I am really p*issed I missed the last 15pages because my internet connection gave up the ghost so without reading it here is my summing up of the season opening race.

Also people say Hamilton drove brilliantly. Well how many people did he get past because of the first corner? and Kimi, Massa, Trulllli, Vettttel and Kubica all gave him places.
Trullli drove better with pitlane start and new/modified not as good wing.

So if Kubica and Vettel stayed on I would have loved the race. Vettels penalty sucks chicken.
It didn't feel good to me though, as the whole race is/was under a big black cloud, with the appeal in April.
Giant cloud.

But it is really, really nice to see Jenson and Rubens and Brawn on the back page of the news paper.

Lewis did alot of overtaking:

net gain/loss from starting position, allowing for attrition*

* = if the car failed to cross the line and appears with a retirementreason in the FIA results, I count it as a DNF even though it maye have been classified - e.g Vettel/Kubica/Raikkonen

G = Grid
F = Finish
A = Attrition

So, R1 Australia

Driver G - F, A = Actual
1. Jenson Button ( 1- 1, 0) = 0
2. Rubens Barrichello ( 2- 2, 0) = 0
3. Lewis Hamilton (18- 3, 7) = +8
4. Timo Glock (19- 4, 7) = +8
5. Fernando Alonso (10- 5, 4) = +1
6. Nico Rosberg ( 5- 6, 2) = -3
7. Sebastien Buemi (13- 7, 6) = 0
8. Sebastien Bourdais (17- 8, 7) = +2
9. Adrian Sutil (16- 9, 7) = 0
10. Nick Heidfeld ( 9-10, 4) = -5
11. Giancarlo Fisichella (15-11, 7) = -3
12. Jarno Trulli (20-12, 7) = +1
13. Mark Webber ( 8-13, 4) = -9
14. Sebastian Vettel ( 3-Ret)
15. Robert Kubica ( 4-Ret)
16. Kimi Räikkönen ( 7-Ret)
17. Felipe Massa ( 6-Ret)
18. Nelsinho Piquet (14-Ret)
19. Kazuki Nakajima (11-Ret)
20. Heikki Kovalainen (12-Ret)

Tell you who was lucky - Fernando Alonso.

Don't remember seeing this posted, but it made me chuckle - it's nice to see that the drivers can all have a joke with each other :)

He did! But it was all good-natured banter. Here’s the transcript (from http://uk.eurosport.yahoo.com/28032009/ ... rt-ii.html the 3rd question down):

Q: (Dan Knutson – National Speed Sport News) I have already asked Jenson this question in Thursday’s press conference, so this is to Rubens and Sebastian. With all the rule changes this year, do you think we will see more overtaking, not only in tomorrow’s race but throughout the season?

RB: I think so, I think that there are some teams with KERS and some others without it, so you’re going to see some overtaking because of that. You might see more overtaking on a proper track, you will see overtaking on this road circuit but it’s because of people making mistakes. You always do see overtaking here in Melbourne anyway, with the visibility being a problem and so on, I think the race is going to be quite a good one. Plus, the wings help. They don’t fix the problem but the moveable wings help, so that could help overtaking too.

SV: I know I’m small but I was also in Thursday’s press conference, next to Jenson!

RB: That was the best answer so far!

SV: You’d better be quiet, you’re even smaller!

RB: No, no, your answer was the best answer so far. – I gave him a compliment – f***ing German! (laughter)

:hehe:

Indeed, and his car was just awful. The Renault doesn't handle well at all :(

Just what are they doing in Enstone? They're double World Champions for crissakes.

Renault have never ever been the same since the mass damper incident. The switch to Bridgestones also hurt them, but I thought they had recovered by the end of last year.
The car just looks like a handful. Alonso isn't helped with such a clutz as a team mate. Furthermore, I think the concerns over Renaults future, and budget cuts have distracted the team. They've moved away from windtunnel into more Computer based development, they think it'll work. If it does it'll take time. Maybe too long to attain the services of Mr Alonso :(

The Renault this year just seems clunky. I mean, aside from being just ugly in general, it's visibly poorly designed even to a layman. It's nothing like any of the other cars, particularly unlike the quick ones.

It looks like a brick in the corners.

I know. Even after last year's progress I worry about Renault this year :(

I thought renault had a strong winter testing, and they sort of talked big about themself this year. but we'll see how they go in Sepang.
Remember ferrari did not do well in melbourne ad they went on winning the construction championship

Ferrari are well behind in comparison to last year in all honesty though.

Indeed. For one thing, the Brawns are the easy pace setters...And Ferrari aren't even in the closest chasing pack.
