Factory MotoGP teams will no longer be able to sign rookie riders from 2010, under the new regulations announced at Jerez today.

The move is intended to encourage the most talented young riders to begin their MotoGP careers at the smaller teams, in the hope that the satellite squads can achieve better results and earn more sponsorship as a consequence.

That's absolutely ridiculous and I can't understand why they think that younger talent going to worse teams would be good. All it would end up doing is ruining some very promising careers very early on.

I don't understand that rule at all. I hate pretty much any rule regarding who teams can sign though

That rule makes no sense. In other words, "main" teams are only allowed veteran drivers that are already proven. So let the "small" teams take the risks of training the new drivers, then they move on to bigger salaries at the main teams.

This seems completely unfair to the small teams, as they seem to be forced to experiment more than the the big teams.

at what point does someone become a non rookie? so you could have an good rider who does 2 years, is then no longer a rookie but there is no major team willing to sign him and the junior team will be looking for someone else to train up.... so rider ends up nowhere
