Boycott threat was FOTA-supported
Statement issued by the teams' alliance

High tension between FOTA and Ecclestone

A dispute regarding unpaid revenues currently exists between the F1 teams' FOTA alliance and the commercial rights holder's representative, Bernie Ecclestone. Talks are ongoing in relation to the signing of a new Concord agreement and the payment of outstanding sums - including money from past seasons - which would accompany the amended deal.

It was recently reported that Flavio Briatore and Ron Dennis, respectively of the Renault and McLaren teams, threatened Ecclestone with a boycott of the Australian Grand Prix if certain important issues were not resolved.

"Flavio started it, aided and abetted by Ron Dennis," Ecclestone told the British newspaper The Times a few days ago. "They were saying all the FOTA-schmota are not going - nobody's going to go."

"If they come in here with a gun and hold it to my head, they had better be sure they can f***ing pull the trigger," Ecclestone bluntly said. "And they should make sure it's got bullets in it because, if they miss, they better look out."

Ecclestone threatened on the spot to cancel the chartered planes standing by to fly cars and equipment to Melbourne, and the FOTA reprsentatives backed down.

On Thursday FOTA issued the following press release.

FOTA statement:
FOTA wish to clarify the situation regarding remarks that have been widely reported in the last few days concerning a meeting between members of FOTA and the Commercial Rights Holder.

The meeting, which took place in London on March 18th, involved John Howett, the Vice Chairman of FOTA, Flavio Briatore in his capacity as chairman of the Commercial Working Group of FOTA and Ron Dennis as a member of the Executive Committee of FOTA as well as Bernie Ecclestone, the Commercial Rights Holder. The FOTA representatives presented the unified views of all FOTA members.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss payment of money owed by CVC (the effective owners of the commercial rights to Formula One) to the teams and relates to agreed sums owing from the 2006, 2007 and 2008 championship years.

FOTA are committed to accelerate the signing of the new Concorde Agreement and, as part of the conditions necessary to obtain the signatures of all the teams, it was necessary to reach a conclusion to this outstanding matter.

During the discussions, any position stated by the members of FOTA who were present was supported by all members.

Seems that all the teams were united on this one and it was not Renault and Mclaren on their own.

BRAWN GP for the win now the whole aero/diffuser situation has be sorted out :)

I am well hoping for a amzing race.
Funny at the 1st race of teh season you dont hope for a rainy race??

Yeah, the one time of the year you want to see them run straight.

Yeah because if it rains you see a mixed up race and may never see, say BrawnGP, at the top again and you'd think 'Damn I never saw what they could have done'

Well not long now until things get underway 7 hours 50 minutes to go until the practice session starts. So what are everyone's viewing plans? Who is going to be up in the wee small hours of the morning watching the opener, like me and if they are will they be logging on here to discuss the goings on as things happen?

Just getting a tad more excited and once things start I will be writing my thoughts to my blog and maybe post some peoples responses to all the incidents and highlights of the weekend.

Just getting "mission control" set up the now with adding/updating some of my computer stuff and hopefully will have everything up and running later on tonight ready for the red lights to go out.

If anyone is intrested in following my blog and to see if I do mention some of your comments on it you can see it over at The Gorilla Files it isn't just a F1 blog but will be about my other sports as well as some areas of my life. Anyone else care to join me in blogging this season.

Damn I won't be able to watch P1 now as it starts at like 1:30am! I'm going to be having trouble sleeping tonight, and then I'll end up getting up too late to check the times before I head off to work because I am the world's worst person at getting out of bed.

Even if I wanted to try and pull a sicky there is always something in my mind that slaps me in the face and says "No!".

Ah well, it's not like the world will end if I miss P1 and P2, I should just worry about getting my arse out of bed a little bit earlier in the morning.
