Stewards clear teams' diffusers

By Jonathan Noble Thursday, March 26th 2009, 12:51 GMT

Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota have been given the go-ahead to take part in the Australian Grand Prix after the FIA stewards rejected a protest against the design of their diffusers late on Thursday night.

Following more than four hours of presentations and discussions between the stewards and the various teams involved in the dispute, the FIA issued a statement confirming that the stewards believe the cars are legal.

Ferrari, Renault and Red Bull Racing had lodged protests against their rivals because they believed the designs of their diffusers were illegal. BMW Sauber had also been due to join the protest, but their complaint was rejected on a technicality after it was not correctly submitted in time.

It is expected that the teams will appeal against the stewards' decision, which will force the matter to go to a hearing of the FIA's International Court of Appeal.

Such a meeting cannot take place until after the Malaysian Grand Prix, meaning that Brawn GP, Williams and Toyota will unofficially be racing under appeal at this weekend's race in Australia and would likely be subject to another appeal in Sepang.

:)

That’s good news. But I do warn that some Ferrari fans may come on here and cry :)

But don't matter...just laugh your head off.... I think its Insecurity were they cry and are a little screed of the competition :)

Now that is good news for Brawny

...and bad news for f1 in general. The season hasn't even started yet and we're already looking at another hearing at the court of appeal. :slap:

It's a bit ridiculous that certain teams should protest when they have aero parts that 'bend' the rules themselves....:rolleyes:

Good that the cars are allowed to race - be interesting to see whether McLaren race the version they have with them or not.

Bad that the losers can't just accept defeat & just get on with it.

- does anybody actually know if they have lodged an appeal against the decision?

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. This is another fiasco which shows just how hypocritical and ludicrous Formula One can be. First, the FIA could have sorted this out three weeks ago. There is no need for this controversy. Second, it's hilarious that certain teams are protesting about other teams which have exploited a legitimate loophole in the regulations, which is something they have done in several areas with their own cars! Do a bit of so-called legal spying, copy the other team's design and shut up!

I hope this is the end of it.
But there is always something like this at the start of a season that is soon forgotted about.

This not the end of it, they are not in the clear quite yet. :banghead: The accused team will race under appeal which I guess means there will not be a final outcome of the race until it gets to the Paris court room.
