I've been away for a while and I'm that busy at the moment that internet time is used up in stolen moments of irrelevant bluster. So fill me in with explanations for the following:

Last time I looked Jenson Button didn't have a drive and his F1 career looked bleak. Now he's favourite for the first race. WTF???

Why are McLaren looking so bad?

Are Renault looking that much better? Alonso's odds seem very short regarding race wins/ championship.

This ridiculous new points scheme has been scrapped until 2010 right?

And...who is the new main commentator on the BBC?

So...I went for a while but now I'm back. Feel like I've been on the moon so last few months so fill me in!

Why are McLaren looking so bad? - Preceived lack of rear end grip. Heres a pretty cool interactive diagram which shows what may be the problem. (But they have caught up slightly) http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/interac ... n-hamilton

Are Renault looking that much better? Alonso's odds seem very short regarding race wins/ championship. - They are fast, but not the fastest team unfortunately. In Alonso's hands however anything is possible... I hope.

This ridiculous new points scheme has been scrapped until 2010 right? - Yep.

And...who is the new main commentator on the BBC? - Ex Five Live Commentator Jonathan Legard.

where to start!

Brawn took over Honda-knew the car was good and gave Buuon and Barrichelo the drive. the car is goos but may be challenged as illegal because of the siting of its diffuser.

McLaren got aero problems centered round the rear wing and diffuser, though the problem may start further forward than that.

Renault not much better. (I think they'll be worse)

Brundle and legard commentating. Studio anchor-Humphreys. Jordan and Coulthard -pundits. McKenzie and Kravitz pit reporters.

Stupid points scrapped till next year but ridiculous capping measures sneaking in.

Bernie and Max really gone off their heads worse than ever.

Thanks, that's great

I hope Alonso does well. He was a class apart in the second half of last season and by far the best driver on the grid. He seems to have regained his best asset- consistency.

I read on the BBC that the Brawn cars are expected to pass any 'inspection' but I suppose you never know in F1.

This is the first year I've not really taken in any testing times or anything (due to a lack of time rather than interest) so the first race should throw up a few shocks for me. Looking forward to it!

Brawn GP (Nee Honda Racing F1) have been working hard on their car for over a year.

They made a mistake in the aerodynamic department

Pretty much the same as the end of last year

Yes it has

Jonathan Legard in the main commentator, aided and abetted by fan favourite Martin Brundle. Jake Humphrey hosts, with Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard as pundits.

Sorry, I don't quite understand. What are these ridiculous capping measures?

Thanks everyone for the replies!

Budget caps. FIA want to create 2 separate set of rules. One where the teams can have total technical freedom for £30 mil a year.
Or you can spend endlessly like the other manufacturers yet face tougher technical restrictions. It is ridiculous. Formula 1... its all in the name the rules ... Formula Ain't.

The FiA is introducing a two-tier Formula for next year.Teams with uncapped budgets run to current regulations. Teams who have their budget capped enjoy more powerful engines and greater technical freedom.

I haven't been round much of late and have taken the eye off the ball. But I was in work this morning and listening to a conversation between F1 stallwarts. All were saying that the McLarens are seriously off the pace, and there is no grip on the back end. What has been happening and whats the issues, cheeers

Sorry, I merged this because the same thing had basically been posted last night. If you read above somethings are explained.

Check this out though.http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/interac ... n-hamilton

Its a good interactive diagram of Mclaren's aero problem.

Many thanks

I love McLaren, but I gotta admit that I love more the fact that this season everything is upside down and sideways for everyone. The backmarkers seems to be on the front, the leaders in the back, the losers might win, etc...Even if that makes it hard for McLaren, heck, it'll be a fun season!

I love this...A weird season that's hard to predict, with unexpected results.
