I'm a Jenson fan at heart and it seems that this year he has finally got a car to show his worth in. However he really needs to outperform Barrichello if he is to prove his critics wrong.

Time will tell, but I am hopeful Jens can and will kick bottom this year. As long as the BGP 001 can deliver the drive-ability and speed then this season could be Buttons best yet, but beating Barrichello will be vital (in a sportsman's like mannor of course)

I thought this thread could be here for the duration of the season comparing how the two are performing against each other.

I agree Button should kick bottom, but rubens knows he is driving for his career like last year so don't count the old dog out

Rubens has more experince racing at the front and will have a different relationship with Brawn then Button does. I'm not saying I think there'd be any favouritism btw.

They both have a lot to prove if the car's a success, first opportunity for Button to show his worth and first time for Rubens after spending so much time under Schumachers shadow and not being allowed to go for it.

I think Rubens will have the edge. I think he will be quicker to get on top of the different feel of the cars.

I think Barrichello will have the edge. He now finally seems to have a car that he is totally happy with (possibly even better than the Schumi era Ferraris he drove), particularly the Mercedes engine.

On the subject of Barrichello, it's quite interesting the variety of team-mates he's had over the years, particularly ones from his early days who were the "F1 old boys" like Capelli, De Cesaris, Boutsen etc. and he outdrove them all. If you take Schumacher out of the equation I think his best match was Eddie Irvine.

Hmm. I think everyone's initial thought is that Jenson will be the one to beat at Brawn. But I hate to, and could never count out Rubens.
Rubens proved last year that he's still got the talent to be in F1. Unlike other drivers who seem to drop off the scale, like Fisi or Ralf, Rubens has kept his performances on a high level. In fact, you could say he's been driving better than ever. He had some stellar drivers this year. I'm not talking about the podium in Britan though. He had a good drive in Monaco, whilst in Canda he made it to Q3, started 9th and held on to finish 7th.

Then again, Jenson has been spectacular before. Hungary 06 says it all really. Honestly the whole year Jenson was pushing hard even taking pole in Australia.

It's hard to say where the 2 are, but I'm sure they'll keep each other honest.

I hate all this Jens V Rubinho crap. They're teammates, not title rivals.

But Jenson is probably going to be quicker, Rubens isn't the only one of the two who's career nearly died there.

They're teammates, not title rivals.

To succeed you must first beat your team mate.

That doesn't mean we have to spend all our time arguing about which one's quicker when we're all smart enough to know that these things are never that simple.

Take 2008, Rubinho eclipsed Jenson because the car didn't suit the Briton and nothing was being done to fix it. Being told by his bosses that 2009 was the real deal, Jenson clearly stopped fighting a car which was no good for him. Rubens mentally had the edge.

But in 2006, Jenson ran rings around Rubinho, possibly because the car didn't suit the Brazilian. The tyres definitely didn't. Jenson took that mediocre car and, with the help of developments late on, was the class of the field in the final 3rd of the season.

In 2007, the car was a disgrace for both, but Jenson had more luck and seemed more determined to wring its bloody neck. But additionally, whilst it posed problems for both, some of its more glaring deficiencies affected areas Rubens was sensitive to. Jenson was bale to outdrive it, Rubens was less so.

All of the results actually suggest Jenson is quicker by a margin. But the actual facts tell us that we just don't don't know. There has yet to be a year we can fairly compare them with. 2007 comes closest, but even that year is way too complicated to judge them by. It is far more difficult to make calls about who's better if they're driving inferior machinery, especially when they're stars who may or may not be de-motivated.

There are countless threads on things that may not be need to be discussed on here. (Eg the countless Lewis ones etc)

Buts freedom is freedom.

Indeed you didn't. But let people talk about which driver is better. Hopefully this season we'll get our answers.

I hope Rubens performs better. But it would be nice if Jenson got good results as well, so that way we dont have to hear him nag about how he could've won the title in so and so's car.

Button.
I look at Button as a very promissing driver with really fast and responsible driving!
I really like his driving style and for me, in the grid, only Kubica, Alonso and - maybe - Massa and Vettel are better than him.
