F1 live: North America's absence from the Formula One calendar is the teams' fault, F1 chief executive Bernie Ecclestone insists.

While the FOTA alliance is pushing hard for a return to the crucial American market, Ecclestone says the fact races in Canada and the United States failed was because of the position of the teams.

"The teams wanted too much money to race there. That was the problem," the 78-year-old billionaire said in an interview with Germany's SID news agency.

He suggests that, because the stumbling block is money, returning to North America is theoretically only a commercial matter.

"We are talking," the Briton revealed, "but for the moment the teams do not want any more than 17 races."

Ecclestone confirmed, however, that negotiations to reinstate the US Grand Prix at Indianapolis are not taking place.

"We would go elsewhere," he said.

I can't believe BE wants to push the blame onto the teams

Possibly good news: 'We would go elsewhere'

So the teams were the ones that frustrated the USGP? give me a break.
The US market is desired by all F1 manufacturers, then add Red Bull and throw in a bunch of the minor sponsors.

I though he was going to bring the Michelin fiasco... but ahh the teams wanted more money. Who's he trying to fool? Does Bernie think he's dealing with children. The F1 teams have very clever people onboard, at least more clever people than him and Max have on their payrolls. They all know the USGP can be/is really lucrative, I'm sure its more lucrative than Bahrain and several others...

whatever

Have to say this isnt "good news". In this economic climate NOBODY in the US is going to pony up the costs for the specific "requirements" of an F1 race. The Indianapolis Motor Speedway already has the facilities in place so its the only likely venue in the US. You can talk all day about other great tacks, great cities or places that you'd like to see a race but the fact is no one has the facilities in place or are likely to spend hard cash to get them in place to host F1 in the US. The fact the Bernie isn't talking with the IMS folks is basically horrible news for USGP fans.

If Rome can stage a race you'd think some US city can do the same.

Could someone PLEASE biatch slap Bernie's disfunctional arse!!! He is a moron for thinking the US is not a viable F1 market, we have been dealing with this scenario since he took control back in the late '70's when he was considered a god for organizing F1's television rights.

Bernie is a money grubbing whore and has lost sight of reality for the sport he supposedly loves  !

I did notice yesterday that on F1-live I think it was that Bernie seemed to say a lot of things to annoy people. perhaps it is dementia setting in

I think everything Bernie has been saying over the past couple of weeks are due to one thing.

FOTA

The teams are increasingly getting their act together and that threatens Bernie. He throws this in, with speckles of rants about putting a gun to his head, cast blame and suspicion on the FIA and in the end, it seems like everyone is at fault for making F1 a joke.

We all see through this. The casual fan may not, but ahhh..... I think Bernie's days are numbered.
