i think mclaren have gained some, but the question is...is it enough? i hope so :)

I think Hamilton will be able to drag the car into Q3...

I definately think its in the top ten. I only worry about the tyres because of the 2 McLaren drivers Hamilton is more harsh on them. Quali will be fine but the jury is still out on the race in my opion

Despite McLaren improving the car this week, Haug has as good as said the car will struggle to make second qualifying.

Agreed.

Hmm... that's pretty pessimistic! I really can't see it being that slow, unless they have barely made any improvement at all, which is highly unlikely.

I suspect their just lowering expectations, that way when the do get into the Top Ten or whatever, it's a success story rather than a "fall from grace"

They're both equally hard on their tyres, but at different ends of the car.

Hamilton is a tire shredder! I think McLaren have been prone to developing cars over the last couple of seasons which are quite harsh on tires tho so Hamilton may not be as bad as he looks

So who do you think is the winter Testing Champ 2009?

Timo Glock?
Nick Heidfelt?
Rubens Barichello?
Fernando Alonso?
Kimi Raikkonen?

Lol its button or rubens i'd say Brawn for just being so quick after nearly not entering.

Seeing as though its rumored that BMW haven't done a single quali run I think Nick is also up there. It all falls back to the same old thing. Testing is unreliable. Brawn GP has done well though.

I disagree. I think they're still (marginally) going to be behind Ferrari, Toyota and BMW Sauber. Of course, they've still got the time between now and Melbourne to add something to the car, so who knows?

We'll have to see how it works out. I think Mclaren have made a step forward.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but hasn't Mclaren had problems with tyre wear for the past few seasons?

I don't mean to sound like a pesimist but these are major tyre wear problems dropping them by 0.2s a lap.
Yes they have plenty of time to add parts to fix this but other teams might make improvements too.

McLaren had some flow vis on that triangle cut out bit so maybe thats the problem with the tyre wear.

got to remember slicks and grooves are totally different in how they react to tyre degradation.

That is potentially going to be a huge factor next weekend. The ex GP2 guys might really have an advantage this year compared with last year

I dont think so tbh, I think everyone will benefit from slicks.
