I just can't wait to hear Bernie's reply :)

Bloody good news though. I really don't think the FIA have a clue what they are doing to the sport. Okay - cost cutting is indeed a must, and you have to agree Mosley has some good ideas on how to achieve that, but the FOTA and the public need to have a bigger say in how the sport changes (i.e rules, regs etc).

Anyway, yeah only 7 days until Melbourne!!! WOOO!

Well, it's better than nothing, but, so far, the FIA have said the new points system will be deferred until 2010. In any case, though, the FIA and FOM have shown their weakness by backtracking. I'm sure there will be a lot of negotiation between the FIA, FOM and FOTA on the matter, and it wouldn't surprise me if the FIA and FOM's plans were scrapped.

well one thing is certain, they (FIA) got people into talking about F1 again, and certainly raised awareness to the sport in some markets where it was slowly fading (like right here where I live)! funny ... right on time for the Australian GP ... hehehe

It might be raising awareness.. but for the wrong reasons. F1 must be looking like a farce to those outside of us hardcore fans.

The FIA simply couldnt break their own rules. Let's just hope that we aren't in the same situation next year.

For the time being though, i'm pleased that we're back to points.

Who told Bernie the teams were in favour, who approved it and what was their knowledge of the teams opinions?

Yeh I thought that. How did they get the impression that the teams were in favour of the medals? Also, given that they did feel the medals idea was well supported, they didn't use the medals idea anyway, they came up with their own hybrid nonsense.

It seems like the FIA and FOM trying to put the smackdown on FOTA because they are starting to feel a bit threatened. The way everyone is speaking in their statements, there is clearly a delicately poised situation occurring behind the scenes.

The comments Bernie made earlier about Ferrari receiving more money than anyone else was designed to destabilise FOTA by undermining Luca's position.

I'd love to know who it was that set Mosley up as I reckon there are interested parties involved that may not necessarily be directly involved in F1. It is all big business after all.

This is strange:

"The 'winner-takes-all' proposal made by the commercial rights holder (Bernie Ecclestone, who had been told the teams were in favour) was then approved.

Who told Bernie the teams were in favour, who approved it and what was their knowledge of the teams opinions?

Good that it's happened though.

Bernie was just chatting :censored: as usual :hehe: .
I think we should all start a petition now to stop it happening next year.

Yes indeed, but there's an old saying that goes that every publicity is good, even the bad one ... and at least in the portuguese market - which used to be hardcore f1 fans, and by far lost that appeal for many reasons - this certainly worked in favour of F1 racing. I hadn't seen a season so talked about in years, and I bet a lot more people will watch the races again (even if unfortunately is only broadcasted live in premium sports channels here)

Despite this particular situation, I do agree with you, but I hope the discussion this brought will end up being productive ... again raised awareness and people seem to care (again)

This has been the most mental off-season I have ever witnessed!

We've had major rule changes, squabbles over super license fees. lost a few tracks and GPs, gained one, speculated over others, Honda pulling out, speculation over other teams, drivers moving around, or staying put, Brawn GP and that little saga, testing times, McLaren duckling, Brawn kicking bottom, FOTA squabbling with FIA and FOM, new rules, new rules rejected...

I'm looking forward to the start of the season so I can relax and stop thinking about F1 so much!

lets not get to excited yet as bernie wants it....... and he does normally get his way

He gets his way because the teams were never willing to put their differences aside and work to stop his tyrannical rule. FOTA have seemed to get its act together and look what they have achieved. Bernie comes up with some crazy idea to decide the title and in less than 48 hours the whole thing is scrapped because a unified FOTA said they weren't having any of it.

Keep this up and Bernie's influence will start to slowly reduce and some concrete plans for the commercial side of F1 can be made for when Bernie dies.

Victory for Common Sense. Victory for Formula One.
However this is only one battle, the war is still on going. Like Mclaren Fan said, the system has only been deferred. As much as I would like to see this idea scrapped, it is only adding a backlog of changes for 2010. The new proposals are going to create a new political war which will undoubtably create much drama!

As much as the FOM/FIA partnership has had its weaknesses exposed with today's announcement, FOTA were also shown to be weak as they failed to have their proposals implemented nor prevent this stupid rule ever being passed in the first place!

But on paper FOTA is the powerful unit. They are the reason we all watch F1 in the first place!! The FIA and FOM are easily replaced and I want to see FOTA flexing its muscles over the year to ensure that their voice is the loudest when it comes to running this sport. That can happen as long as they stick together.

Max and Bernie are probably trying to devise a divide and conquer plan as we speak.

Great news. Can now look forward to the season!! :) FOTA found the rule that said decisions couldnt be taken at such short notce unless all the teams agreed, its illegal .So the FIA broke their own rule.:rofl: You reckon Max didnt know the teams werent in favour??? Course he knew, he's an arrogant poo who thinks he can do what he wants. 1-0 to FOTA!!
