i think we should be in agreement that in both 2007 and 2008, the right driver won

I would say the right team won. Massa was basically slaughtered by team mistakes so Ferrari didn't deserve to win...but Massa drove a better season than Hamilton. McLaren however...was a better team. So the right team won the drivers championship...despite their driver dropping the ball. In my humble opinion of course.

Massa made plenty of mistakes and mcLaren some too. Massa and ferrari were also hugely helped by the FIA.

Hamilton drove a better season than Massa imo. Mistakes, yes but he really earned some of his wins. Massa couldn't have done what Hamilton did in Germany or at Silverstone. Massa's a good lights to flag guy but Hamilton really showed his class and won some difficult races last season. Massa also won 2 races that he really didn't deserve to (although Hamilton kinda fluked it in Monaco and Massa had awful luck in Hungary).
France - Kimi had him beat but the car failed him
Spa - Never even looked like winning that one but picked up the 10 points after chicanegate

Thing is, to contradict myself, Hungary showed us that Massa may now be in a place in his driving where he is able to make the quick decissions that enable a driver to firght through the pack and win difficult races. That's what confidence does for a driver and it is a big reason why Hamilton looked so much better than Kovalainen in races last season for instance. If Massa develops this, he could be a massive threat to everyone next season

Ron Dennis has always failed to keep his personal feelings about drivers separate from the business of racing. Just listen to Coulthard speak about when he was there with Hakkinen.

There may be some truth in this, but Coulthard has an axe to grind, so I would treat his comments with extreme caution.

Your 110% correct - as it was proven in Later years Villeneuve's title was rather complimented due to the amazing effort by Williams in 1997.
Schumacher says himself that Mika was his greatest rival. Although id argue that he wasn't his only fair competition. Alonso, Raikkonen, Montoya, Coulthard, Hill and Villeneuve on their day could all challenge and beat Schumacher. Hakkinen was the only one who could do it consistantly.
