As sports become more popular to people who are willy nilly fans and it will become tribal and trivial.

Juventus = Match fixing
Chelsea = Attempting to buy success and are only supported by lawyers and accountants
Man United = Supported principally by people who live nowhere near Manchester with bad hair
Roma = FIGHT!
Real Madrid = Europe's principle extreme right wing football club

Yup football is pretty tribal but F1 is starting to get that way too, especiall with the Alonso - Hamilton fanboys

Yeh there's a lot of Irish and cockaney fan's at united.

nothing wrong with that just when your the best, you attract some glory hunters.

I don't really know how you can support a team which is not in your locale or with which you have some family connexions. Even moving into an area has not boosted my loyalty to a team; I've been living in Scotland for the past couple of years and I don't feel close to either Celtic or Rangers. Anybody without geographical and/or family connexions claiming to support a team is clearly a glory-hunter.

Well i've lived in Manchester most of my life and my Dad has supported Manchester and so did his dad but my Cousin's who have lived in Ireland from when they were like 4 support Man U.

with my season i'm sat right infront of two irish lads.

I think its because of the whole George Best and other Irish players who have played for United?

Cockney reds just glory hunters tho.

There's been a bit of an Irish connexion between Manchester United (and Liverpool), but you could say there are similar connexions with other teams. There are plenty of football teams in Ireland, so if you are Irish, you should be supporting them.

I used to be a Bayern Munich fan when I lived in Switzerland. I quickly became a San Diego Chargers fan during my time in SD and I still am Chargers fan even though I moved to NY. So, I'm not sure whether your criteria apply to me or to others for that matter - maybe you can divvy it out for me?

Perhaps my first post on this page was not clear enough. By moving to San Diego you developed a geographical connexion with the Chargers, and it's stuck since you've moved elsewhere. This is fair enough. Personally, though, it's not been enough for me. The only team for which I have any meaningful affection is Glentoran F.C., for whom my grandfather played, who all my family (often casually) supported, and who are based in the part of Belfast in which most of my family and I were born. I can't divvy why you supported Bayern Munich, however. You'll have to tell me.

I simply liked the team best of all the Bundesliga teams - I was NEVER interested in the Swiss football league but rather followed the Bundesliga on German TV (which is readily available in Switzerland). So, I think one can develop a true emotional connection that is void of any family or geographical ties.

I'll tell you what sucks the most in football . . . breaking your 5th metatarsal. I now won't be riding, let alone RACING my mountain bike for at least 8 weeks! Seriously gutted! :banghead:

ouch but hey i thought mountain bikers rode through that sort of pain :D its only a matatarsal, the 5th.. is that the pinky? :hehe:

That is all a lie. Inter-Milan created a scam as they couldn't win the Scudetto any other way. Before they stole our Scudetto from the 2005-2006 season and then won another 3 after that, they had not won since the 1989-1990 season! The Calciopoli was as valid as the Spygate in the 2007 F1 season. Rubbish. McLaren fans will tell you the Spygate was not true and can give you reasons. I can say the same about the Calciopoli.

Yeah it's the pinky! well it's the long bone the pinky is connected too anyhoos. Has fractured where it meets the ankle bones. It's not amazingly painful just not aloud to put weight on it for a while. Is poo because I've been riding all winter in crap weather and now I'm gonna miss some races that I've already paid to enter! Ah well, will just have to push harder for point when I recover, kamikaze style :hehe:

So true! :blush: no-one could accuse me of glory hunting back then!

As for Juve', they've always been a little prone to underhand tactics (that's just serie A thought, right?!). 1997-1998, Juve' were accused of bribing referees by a member of the Italian parliament causing quite a funny fist fight :thumbup:
Either way, i don't really worry to much about what Juve' are up to these days, they're not really a threat to anyone atm

I don't think so. Juve will be one of the biggest threats to any opposing club as of next year. That is a fact. In fact the Chelsea team that played them in the UCL was a full Chelsea number 1 team line up. Juve's side was somewhat depleated as players were injured etc. And with a half full squad, Chelsea only manged a 2-2 draw in Turin and to win 1-0 at Stamford Bridge. So a half full squad Juventus squad just loses to one of the best football clubs, Chelsea and you think they are no threat at the moment. Well looks like you're wrong. And come summer, Juve (Who has plenty of money) will buy at least 3 new super stars meaning next season anyone who plays them will be worrying. Not thay they don't now. Recently against big clubs, Juve beat Real Madrid twice. 2-1 in Turin and 2-0 in Madrid. They have beaten both AC Milan and AS Roma last they played as well and watch out Roma this week as they are going to lose to Juventus at home.

Yeah Prem footballers and italians are a bunch of puffs.

I don't watch the foreign leagues but I have to agree with you about the Premiership. There's also too much cheating, diving and greed and more brown nosing from Scudamore to "certain clubs" than the FIA does with Ferrari *cough* West Ham *cough*.

Then 7up you will be glad to hear that West Ham have to pay £25 million in "compensation" to Sheffield United. I personally think that this ruling is joke and much more damaging that Tevez playing illegally. No matter how illegal the signings of Tevez and Maschrano was it still doesn't take away from the facts that Sheffield Utd had the worst away record in the Premier league that season. So trying to blame West Ham for their lack of skill on the pitch is about as low as you can go.
