From F1 Live:

BMW Sauber would like to see Formula One's minimum car weight increased.

Despite the voluntary introduction of relatively heavy Kinetic Energy Recovery Systems’ this year, the FIA has left the existing minimum car weight of 605kg the same.

But because the figure includes the weight of the driver, the KERS factor has led to widespread weight loss this winter, with some commentators concerned that F1 is heading the route of ski-jumping.

"In order to prevent Formula One from becoming a jockey's competition, we are pushing for an increase of the minimum weight in the future," team boss Mario Theissen revealed.

BMW's F1 team is an interesting example, with the very tall (and thin) Robert Kubica unhappy about his KERS disadvantage, and diminutive team-mate Nick Heidfeld further strengthening his advantage by also losing weight this pre-season.

Theissen on Monday said the team's KERS system is ready to debut at Melbourne, but he clarified that the final call about the technology's deployment in 2009 will be made "on a driver-by-driver, circuit-by-circuit basis."

If a driver's weight proves to be an issue, this may be worth taking a look at.

These guys are weighing in a 65 kg. That's around 144 lbs. I'm 5'10 and about 195 lb. If I lost 50 pound I would look sick. I date chicks that weigh as much as these quys.. :hehe:

LMAO

There just splitting hairs. They have problems with the KERS themselves.
The only thing i know they can use is there weight?
Kubica is a pencil and eats Carrots and drinks water? P-Lease.
If you look at him coming out of a car u would have just thought BMW installed a pool in the car.

I agree. If introducing a new technology ADDS to the weight of an F1 car, it is almost like trashing out all the previous research on ultra light materials. In the end this will either: force the grid to spend more on (lighter) material research, and driver weight. Both are ridiculous.

Increase the silly minnimun weight, or at least develop lighter KERS system. That's what most of the teams will agree to anyway.

Good team, but when teams try to fiddle with the rules? you have to question why.
Then i just sit there and think.

BMW are right, we don't want F1 to become a jockey sport. The minium weight should include the driver. It's not a hard thing to change and it offers a solution without draw-backs.

the minimum weight does include the driver. the problem is KERS has taken up alot of the wieght that was once filled by ballast.
