From F1 Live:

Anthony Davidson, a veteran of 24 Grand Prix, will turn to full-time Formula One commentary this year.

The British broadcaster BBC revealed in a statement that the 29-year-old driver, who raced most recently until the Super Aguri demise last year, is joining the 5 Live radio team.

Following the end of his Super Aguri duties in 2008, Davidson - who has also filled in for broadcaster ITV's television commentary in the past - called the British and European Grand Prix.

"Over the last few years as a Formula One driver I've enjoyed being a guest commentator with Radio 5 Live, and I'm looking forward to joining the team for the full season this year as a regular in the commentary box," Davidson said in a statement.

"Commentating gives me the chance to explain what it feels like to drive an F1 car to the limit, and to share the inside view on all of the demands that a driver faces over the weekend," he concluded.

Davidson will work alongside David Croft and pit lane reporter Holly Samos.

This is quite sad, to be honest. I don't think we really saw the best of Davidson. Is he going to be racing in any other series? If not, I'm genuinely surprised. Although Formula One is very prestigious, there is a lot of other series that have a great reputation as well, so Davidson could still have a decorated career.

He's shown himself to be at least as good as some of the currnet drivers, I'd liked to have seen him get the chance to go further.

hes only 29-30 thats not too old for an F1 driver with the cost cuts comming in and hopfully this credit crunch comming to an end we could see more teams next year and hopfully they will give semi experienced drivers like davidson a chance.

that said ITV did a documentry about him and they said even if he dont' too well in F1 he will be a very good comentator. I agree with that so all the best to him really.

It'll be nice to see him around anyway. Hes such a nice and down to earth guy.

But yeah, A1GP would've been an interesting way for him to go. They've got some really good drivers at the top now. Too bad they don't have much of a race calendar.

That's a shame for Davidson, he's far too good a driver to not have a drive in any series. I remember last year they aired a documentary comparing his and Hamilton's racing careers right up from karting to the 2007 season.

It is also fair to say that Honda messed Davidson around a lot, they blocked Williams trying to sign him after the Button fiasco, and then Nick Fry killed off Super Aguri. He showed us what he was capable off when he finished Q1 in Turkey 2007 in 8th position.
