It used to be quite common for F1 drivers to do both F1 and the old World Sportscar Championship during the same season, as well as Le Mans. I would like to see Bourdais' efforts re-start this trend.

I agree  And I'd like to see Monaco moved to a later date so we could see F1 drivers compete in the Indy 500 like in the olden days as well.

It is a very good idea, but the olden days are behind us now. Many teams stopped letting their drivers particpate in other series after Bellof's tragic death. Brands like Red Bull appear to be more open to the idea though.

I am sure any red bull driver could drive in a any car as long as it has red bull in big letters all over it.

So its a go for Le Mans. Bourdais will replace Jaques Villeneuve and also race at the 12 hours of Sebring which is a week before the F1 season opener.

The Peugeot Le Mans team has officially confirmed that Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Bourdais will be part of its line-up for this year’s historic 24-hour endurance race.

As an STR spokeswoman confirmed to itv.com/f1 last weekend, the French ace will become the first Formula 1 driver in recent years to dovetail his main racing duties with the sportscar classic.

Bourdais will prepare for the Le Mans assault by also competing in the Sebring 12-hour race in the USA on March 21, a week before the new F1 season kicks off in Australia.

The Frenchman, confirmed for a second season at Toro Rosso last Friday, hails from Le Mans and has contested the 24 Hours six times while racing in the junior classes and Champ Car, taking second for Peugeot in 2007.

The 29-year-old replaces former world champion Jacques Villeneuve in the French manufacturer’s 2009 line-up and is joined by a host of current and former F1 names on Peugeot’s roster.
Current test drivers Christian Klien (BMW) and Marc Gene (Ferrari) will compete alongside ex-race drivers Pedro Lamy, Franck Montagny, Stephane Sarrazin and David Brabham.

This year’s Le Mans 24 Hours takes place between the Turkish and British grands prix on the weekend of 13-14 June.

Thats actually quite a lot of choice, considering Red Bull is present in just about every form of motorsport.

As for Bourdais driving in LeMans. Great stuff. Its nice to see some F1 drivers pulling their noses out of F1, and having a look at other races. LeMans is such a great and historic race, more drivers should show an interest in it. I mean, its only once a year, its not like its a serious commitment that's going to harm your performance in F1

I still rate Bourdais highly. I think that (in spite of the level of competition) anybody who watched him race in the States couldn't possibly try to argue that he isn't exceptionally talented. In 2008 his bad luck started in Australia and continued throughout the year. He should easily have had 10-15 points, or possibly more. I'm sure the with the '09 cars more resembling what he raced in the States he'll improve even further; if his luck holds this year he should get a decent return of points.
