By the way... I certainly hope they dont go over american with the name (like Force India) or that they dont turn it into a flag waving excercise. That's what A1GP is for (I like A1GP by the way).

If & it's a very big if, there was a single organisation anywhere on the planet seriously planning to get into F1 they'd have bought Honda by now - on a buy now, pay later concept if they hadn't got the cash upfront.

If there were 2 serious organisations Torro Rosso would have new owners by now.

I suspect that Williams & concievably Force India would welcome serious financial input in exchange for part ownership.

USF1 is about as real as the returns offered by Bernard Madoff.

As I said previously, I hope they don't buy Honda or Torro Rosso, and just build from the ground up. If they bought Honda, they would be buying Fry and Brawn. What ever you think of the two personally, I'm sure they are quite expensive and the team has a lot of people that would have to be enharitted in order to make it work.

To me I'd rather hire a new relatively small staff and outsource some components instead of trying to take a very large unsuccessful organization and try to pair it down and try to figure out where things went wrong in the first place.

A fresh clean look... Think about it.. Can a championship car and driver be put together for under 50 million year? Can a car be built for less than 1/2 million dollars???

After Torro Rosso's performance last year they are anything but unsuccessful.

& to the poster who hoped the new team wouldn't have some name linked to the country it comes from, what exactly do you think the US in USF1 stands for?

Yeah I was thinking more Honda than Torro Rosso who clearly had thier act together last year. But still, Torro Rosso is probably asking top dollar or euro for the sale because of their performance. You have two ends of the spectrum. Honda, and Torro Rosso both operating in the pre-cost cutting F1 era... Get some fresh blood all the way around and add a team to the grid.

If Obama sponsored it, I'm sure he could generate 50 mill for it. He generated 755 mill for his campainge last year..."Now that F1 you can believe in!!"

Laguna Seca would do that indeed!! I just don't know if there is enough in the general area to support Laguna Seca, like hotels, night life, and all the pomp and circumstance, fanfare that Bernie is looking for..

There is more than enough hotels, ans especially the night life in Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach, etc. The problem are the facilities and the length of the track.


... I think a good American driver would be Carl Edwards, or maybe Graham Rahal?

And 5 minutes east of Laguna Seca is Salinas which is where quite a bit of the motogp people stay. I honestly think the location is perfect, its just the facilities thats the problem.

John Steinbeck is from Salinas, so a lot of his books like Cannery Row, Tortilla Flat, and of Mice and Men are based in Monterey County. Theres a huge museum dedicated just to him in oldtown Salinas. Monterey County is a very touristy area, so thats why I think the location is fine.

USF1, a prospective new Formula One entrant to be based in America, looks set to launch its foray on February 24th, according to one of the figures central to the project.

Peter Windsor, a former team manager turned journalist, said he was surprised his and Ken Anderson's plans were kept under wraps for several years.

The Briton, the pitlane reporter for F1's US television coverage on Speed, told the channel's website speedtv.com that 'the real announcement' about USF1's plans could be made on February 24.

Windsor explained that since the rumours broke, the response has been overwhelmingly positive.

"Of course it's not easy raising money in the recession," he admitted. "Having said that, the recession is all about adapting to changing times and re-setting the boundaries."

"That is what we are going to with USF1 - and that is what the FIA are doing with the F1 rules. We know that we're primarily in the entertainment business and so every aspect of USF1 will reflect that," said Windsor.

I'm not sure if it is possible, but I wonder if they can accept donations as start-up money?

1. Set the website, usf1.com to accept donations, like Pres. Obama's campaing site.
2. Start a grass roots organization designed to do nothing but put USF1 out in the general public.

Because they are not tied down to one of these teams for sale they have the flexibility to try a bunch of new and innovative things..

I'd just like to invite our North American based fellow forumers to consider the idea of a British organisation deciding to set up a Nascar team based in the UK but with offices in Mexico.

I think that sounds great and I've no doubt folks here would welcome it. Although I'm not a huge NASCAR fan they have most definitely been getting more and more international. NASCAR now holds races in Mexico and Canada and has 4 or 5 international drivers. When you think about it thats pretty good for an organization which 20 years ago didn't even have a driver form west of the Mississippi let alone another country.

One of the prime movers behind the USF1 team project, Ken Anderson, has said that he would very much like Indycar star Danica Patrick to be one of the team’s drivers. The team hopes to be on the F1 grid in 2010 as a showcase for American technological innovation and talent, and according to Anderson, Patrick - the world’s foremost female racing driver - epitomises that spirit.

[Danica is] “great”, Anderson said in an interview with the Associated Press. “I don’t know if it’s something she wants to do. We’d certainly love to test her and go from there.”

The publicity bonus of having a female driver compete in the F1 World Championship since Giovanna Amati in 1992 was not lost on Anderson, either.

“She gets a lot of press,” he added. “(Indianapolis Motor Speedway president) Tony George would probably be pretty mad with me if I took her out of the IRL but we’ll see,” said the ex-Ligier man.

Anderson and Peter Windsor, the other name connected with the project, are reported to be considering ex-Toro Rosso driver Scott Speed for the other seat.

its nothing against women here but she's won 1 race which from what i hear was stratergy if she was IRL champion or somthing yeh but if there piping on about being compeative then get a competative driver not a lucky race winner.
