London made the news even over here: they said that in all of London there wasn't a single snowplow to take care of the dusting (comparatively ) - LMAO!

We get a couple of inches of snow and the whole country grinds to a standstill. Other countries get weather much worse than what we are experiencing and things continue to operate as normal. The United Kingdom is a laughingstock once again. I don't know why we keep the 'Great' in Great Britain.

It's what you call "political correctness". Sure there are ways we can stop bringing the UK to a crawl when the snow falls but by law we can't. Studded tyres and catepillar tracks are an example, legal in places like Scandinavia and no problem getting through snow there, but illegal here.

We simply don't have the infrastructure necessary to deal with the problem as well. There isn't enough gritters etc. available to clear and salt the roads. Okay, this stuff is expensive, but when you add up the cost of the economic damage done by this and other incidences when "poor" weather has paralysed the UK, investing in equipment and personnel to deal with it is necessary. Moreover, London is one of the world's key financial cities, so it's not just business etc. in the UK that suffer.

I got through my day in Glasgow fine, as did all the buses and the trains etc etc. No problem to us hardy Scots.

Well, we didn't exactly get the worst of it in Glasgow, but you do make a serious point. Scotland is more accustomed to s*** weather, but, even so, I still feel the French and Germans would school Scotland, and their weather is hardly comparable to the Baltic regions.

Hmm I'd disagree. Namely because the French and Germans don't run about in kilts exposing the wedding vegetables in freezing conditions.

The Baltics + Russia + Scandinavia is where it is really worse. But they get by with warm clothes and alcohol. We already have the second part in Scotland... Lots of it...

I sat on the bus for an hour this morning and we made it about half a mile, all cause of a few inches of snow. Jesus.

Still, i rang work and they said not to come in and we probably wouldn't be making deliveries anyway, so here's to a day off! Don't expect your mail today folks....

Well i wouldnt be too hard on the UK, the heat was causing havoc with the trains in Melbourne, Melbournes rail network is older than Adelaide and because Melbournes older rail network has wooden sleepers (Which expand) Compared to Adelaide's sleepers which are concrete which does not expand the rails they do not have the same heat related issues. Also Jeff Kennett ordered european Trains and Trams that are not suitable to Melbourne's Heat.

also we have rolling blackouts due to high power consumption with everyone turning on their Aircons non stop. Governments rarely go out of their way to spend money on extreme weather which may never or rarely occur.

if it started snowing alot like this in the UK im sure they would start making preparations.

I agree with you Bud. I get annoyed at the chaos bad weather causes here but how often do we get it? Last time we had it like this was about 6 years ago so its not good policy to have armies of snow ploughs etc to use once every 6 or 7 years. I was in France skiing couple of weeks ago and they go on as normal in this weather....but its their business to keep eveythng going, it happens every year and they make money from it.
Loads of schools closed round here but not mine!!!! I walked to school in ski gear today. And made snowmen and went on sledges with the kids. I like snow.
