I am Welsh, but forced to work under a union flag that does not support my heritage

how about Australians then....... You Brits have been united for a few hundred years so its about time you became one nation instead of this petty bickering.

The Welsh culture is differen to that of England and so is their national language which is Welsh and one of the 2 official languages of Wales (the other being English of course). Jabberwocky has every right to complain about the flag as he is Welsh and not English or Scottish and the British flag only represents the English and Scottish flags. Think of it this way. I didn't like the Yugoslav flag which dominated mostly Serbian and to some extent Croatian in that old republic. It made the Slovenians and everyone else feel little and not important. Good riddens to that I guess. Not that Britain is as bad as Jugoslavija was but Jabberwocky is a proud Walshman and has every right to bicker about the current sitaution about the flags as if I were him I would agree with him in full.

Well the Union is a strange one. As a Nationality we are either Scottish, English, Welsh or Northern Irish.
But as our state we are British. Im a proud Brit, but I think being Scottish adds to the melting pot of being British.
And I don't think any of us bicker, we wouldn't still be united if so.

Kiki you know i know my British history theres no need to lecture me, i too have access to a British passport through my Scottish mum. But the fact remains they are one nation now and they should look forward as one instead of looking back as separate states.
I mean Italy seems to do alright as a nation while in the past there have been numerous regional conflicts that now make up the Italian state. You still get the odd Calebrase vs Sicilian etc etc.

countries flags seem to divide as much as they unite. one day the Human race will grow the f*** up.

For a brief time in the olden days you cowboys down there were independent, weren't you? Should have stayed that way and we could have avoided the Bush disaster

Yes and my apologies for the error I should have caught it.

Yes sir we were and as you know and we still have the power to do so but this is not the 1800's anymore and would not be wise. Some laws of the state of Texas, just aswell as any other state, are either overlooked or left intact for one reason or another. Such as in Texas a horse still has the right of way which I think is damn cool and pay's homage to our heritage.
Should have stayed that way and we could have avoided the Bush disaster

Hindsight is 20/20 right?

Anyway I'm proud to be an American but I am also proud to have an English heritage, I'm a very happy and content mutt :) .

I'm Welsh. I love the rivalry between the home nations, especially when it comes to rugby (6-nations grandslam holders  ).
However I also like that we're all British too

You get plenty of that Sicilian-Calabrese-Southerner thing not liking the Notherners and vice versa. The southerners think we notherners are up ourselves and racists, but when we go down to their parts, we don't always get the best treatment either. Well I don't always anyway. And you can't even hide the fact you're from a different part. In Sicily the main language spoken everyday is Sicilian (Or dialects of Sicilian, but not Italian which are different to Italian like Spanish is. So similar but different). In Calabria and other low southern states they speak dialects of Sicilian. Further up they speak dialects of the Neopolitan language. Of course everyone speaks Italian as it is the state language but when I go there, if they speak their Sicilians etc I struggle so speak Italian and then they know.......... Of course same thing is up north. For example I am from Udine. There the language of the Udinese is Friuli (once again a language and not a dialect of Italian). People speak it s well as Italian. (I don't as I am not Friulian descent). So say a Sicilian comes to Udine, he/she only speaks Italian, and probably has a hint of a Sicilian accent and it can be picked out. In Udine plenty of Slovenes as well. So thus plenty of people (like me) speak it second to Italian as well. I guess all of Europe is like this. Because once upon a time, there were all these seperate states. Germany was like this, as were most of the Eastern European countries of today, so was Spain, Britain etc etc, thus the reason for all these current day languages, cultures etc withing the same existing state.
