F1live:

A side-effect of the new aerodynamic regulations this year will be the slowing-down of pitstops, according to McLaren test driver Pedro de la Rosa.

In the name of inspiring more overtaking, drivers this year will be able to control from the cockpit a moveable flap on the front wing.

But because damaged front wings so often need to be changed, gone are the days when this process can be completed in little more than ten seconds, the 37-year-old Spaniard told the British broadcaster ITV.

"You can use a hydraulic system or you can use an electric motor, but whichever you use you still have to connect some type of cables because you're operating it from the cockpit," de la Rosa said.

"So it's going to add a big loss at the pit stops for everyone."

Could be very interesting: wider wings will inevitably lead to more broken noses :P:twisted::P:twisted:

is there a rule prohibiting radio control? I know the car is not allowed to receive commands from the pit as far as live changes to mapping etc goes but what about a controller in the cockpit being a transmitter and a receiver located in the nose can control the servos.

Or what about the contacts being just part of the mating of the 2 halves, like the contacts in the sliding doors of my minivan that meet their mates on the pillar?

I think your second suggestion would be an option - not sure about the wireless.

It's been against the rules for years now, for the team to make changes via radio, wireless etc!
they can only inform the drivers to make adjustments manually!

good point dd might we'll see more nose replacments for sure.

that said i think some teams will have devopled some plug and play system for the cables that will clip-connect with the nose is fitted.

Yeah and the new front wings look might fragile. Like Kubica said awhile ago I think we will be seeing front wings breaking off in Melbourne if the drivers use too much curb.

I doubt there will be much connections to make even if there is some controls for the front wings... the way i have always thought about it is they will use connectors like the ones on detachable-face car stereos. Sure, the front wings will probably be heavier as they will likely carry the mechanisms (ie electric motors or hydraulic pumps) to move the flap, AND teams are supposed to reduce their pit crews.... but other than that i just cant imagine that many cables/wires hanging about to be conneuring the pit stop.
