Something that Lewis Hamilton said to ITV during the Monaco GP weekend has been haunting me all week. The young Brit, who I concede is an absolute phenomenon, said that he felt Senna was looking down on him.

Now I've always given Rubens the benefit of doubt when he's said such things, being Brazilian and a close friend of the great driver, but what is going on with Lewis - this just doesn't sit too well with me.

I just hope all this hype doesn't get to his head.
And I sure hope he's not the next Senna, for various reasons. Not the least would be how Senna's career was cut short...

It doesn't indicate that he compares himself to Senna. If he is, he's crazy arrogant but I don't think he is. I think he just means Senna is the patron Saint of McLaren and cast favour on selected McLaren drivers, and with the way LH has been driving, He must be one of them.

Senna started in an inferior car and impressed all. He proved he was the world's best driver in the JPS Lotus, which was also inferior. LH has not proven anythig in any inferior car. I hope he realizes that.

I worry that the publicdity is going to his head.

He needs to keep his feet firmly on the ground.

Perhaps that's why Ron is insisting he does very few interviews.

I interviewed Antonio Pizzonia for our local TV station when he was racing for Williams. I may as well have not bothered, for the Williams PR man was right there with us telling him exactly what to say, and telling me exactly what questions I should ask and what questions I shouldn't.

I might as well have just interviewed the PR man.

Well Stephen, it worries me greatly that he's comparing himself to Senna. I can see what he's thinking, Senna was the "People's Champion" and the media Jihad that's going on in the UK right now over him he's thinking is because he's such a wonderful personality.

He needs to realise it has been a long time between drinks for British F1 fans and he's started in a McLaren that is reminding me of Adrian Newey's 1998/1999 efforts.

He may go on to win the WC this year or the next, but he will always be on par with the likes of Jaques Villuenerve and Damon Hill until he wins a WC in a car that isn't the class of the field.

Still, the boy can drive, there's no doubt about that. He's no fookin Senna yet!!!

I think he just saying his incredible luck and good fortune place him in rarefied air and that he feels blessed. Senna is a patron saint for a lot of drivers so he is just saying 'Senna must be smiling down on me.' Thats a far cry to saying 'I'm the next Senna.' Give me a break. Not even Michael would make that assertion!
