I still gush at my Bravia X Series LCD, I got the 46" model, I was actually going to get Plasma as it was cheaper but I was told Plasma struggles in daylight. As my TV was going next to a huge window I had to get LCD.

It looks awesome, I've not seen any 1080p content on it yet, I've seen Gears of War on the X-Box 360 at 720p and it looked pretty good. Can't wait for Blue Ray to get cheap.

Just get the external HD drive for your 360. I wouldnt get too excited about Blu-ray just yet.

blu ray is a leap forward over dvd, i didnt think it would be much but seeing it at 1080p its so much crisper than a sd dvd, also the sound is alot better also.

Demure just get a ps3 stuff the xbox :P i didnt bother getting a 360 i waited for a ps3 and i classed myself as an xbox fan haha

Absoluitley, but HD DVD is very comperable. A dual layer HD DVD can hold more information then a single layer Blu-ray disc. And since the Blu-ray technology has not become successful to produce dual layer discs, HD DVD may prove to be the next format.

Are you referring to storage capacity? According to your link, single layer Blu-ray =25 GB, Dual Layer HD DVD = 30 GB.

Well, that would be comparing apples with oranges. Apparently, dual-layer Blu-ray disks which hold up to 50 GB, have arrived. Why would you say they're not successful in producing them? Hence, when you compare the two dual-layer versions of the two formats, there's no doubt that Blu-ray has the edge.
Also, when you compare how many movie studios support Blu-ray vs. HD DVD, the latter seems to be quite a bit behind.

Like everything there are two sides. I was a Sony fanboy like yourself once ago. I could find links that describe the problems with manufacturing dual-layer Blu-ray discs resulting in a high failure rate-higher manufacturing costs. The point is that for under $200 (USD) deMuRe could buy the external HD DVD drive for his 360 and get the full 1080p experience from his LCD. That's considerably less then current Blu-ray technology. Both Blu-ray discs and drivers are considerably more expensive. But your right, if you want to watch a 9 hour long HD movie on 1 disc then no doubt Blu-ray is the way to go :) Just cause technology is available doesn't make it successful, I don't think I need any examples of that :)

I'm not hooked on either. I just like technological advances and Blu-ray is definitely the more 'modern' solution. I hope it won't turn out the way it did between VHS and Betamax (and to a certain extent Video 2000), where the inferior technology wiped out the more visonary and advanced solutions by musceling itself onto more shelves and shoving itself down the consumers' throat.

bringing this thread back up, i forgot about it, i have been looking into HD DVD and Blu Ray and i think you need to look at which companies are getting behind each technology. and Blu Ray has the bigger muscle in that department with Sony Panasonic etc.

People are going to have to buy a new HD DVD player or Blue Ray player to see the HD formats. so will everyone want a HDDVD as its closer to what they have currently or will they go for a new fresh format ?

i can see a VHS vs Beta all over again hey dd

Sony have been quite clever in the UK. Everyone who has bought a PS3 has been sent a free copy Casino Royale on blue ray to start their collection.

But this is going to be a long drawn out battle with Microsoft on one side and Sony on the other!

yeah i got the casino royale blu ray too with mine.

Sony, Philips, Sun Microsystems, Dell, Pioneer, TDK, and Apple.

HDDVD - Toshiba, Sanyo, RCA, Microsoft, and Intel.

LG will be releasing a dual format player, so they might win over everyone haha
