The financial situation is terrible. Every day, I wake up to find that a company has been forced to collapse.

Companies such as Curry's, PC World and furniture retailers apparently aren't doing too well at the moment...

I imagine that any company that makes the majority of its profit selling non-essential items would be going down that route. ASDA, Tesco, Sainsbury's et al should be faring better. As should corner shops, for once. But in general things like cars, electronics, entertainment and lifestyle stuff (jewellery, expensive clothes etc.) aren't what people want to spend what money they have on at the moment.

Currys/Pc World - same company
Are doing terribly so I would expect something to come up soon.

As for Tesco, Asda etc they are raking it in tbh. People will always need food and will always be drawn in with their deals.
Smart men, their offers may appear cheap but they really are making some coinage during this recession.

For example If Tesco decide that 5 million of the Pop will have pork for Sunday dinner in the UK, it'll be done. They manipulate the market and the consumer.

What a nice cheerful topic this is :)

Begbie's Traynor (insolvency experts) I think predicted that 15 high street shops would go before the end of Jan/Feb. Definitely see WHSmiths going, possibly with Currys.digital (or whatever they're called these days) and maybe someone like Argos?

I nearly had a heart attack when you wrote that, you cruel, cruel person! And then I remembered you probably didn't mean the car company, you meant the clothing company :hehe:

So, Waterford/Royal Doulton today...(OK, not quite high street). Anyone want to take bets on who's next?

Personally, I think The Times newspaper should fire some of it's journos (and online editor). I always thought they largely managed to get their facts right...or maybe not ;)

"Fifth of small firms to go bust as recession starts to bite"

ALMOST one in 20 of the UK’s small firms could fail this year as the recession starts to bite in earnest. Of the 4.7m British small firms, 200,000 could go bust in 2009, according to a forecast from the Forum of Private Businesses.
