Who needs Ferrari, Alonso and Toyatoa in F1 anyway?

And to cut cost, why don't they get rid of the drivers too? Surely the cars can be remotely controlled!

Put 20 exact same cars (different colours) on the grid, slap some sponsors logos on them and let us watch the ads!

Ferrari and Alonso are 2 of F1s greatest things. Without them F1 would be crap. Fact.

I know but what I would like to really say that without Alonso it would be crap so it would be a pity if he were to quit.

Yeah alot are suppliers, but i recall reading they just signed a new sponsor for 09 being Logwin.

I am sure that cheap transportation for items to get to circuits around the world would of been mentioned at some point

any team with external intrests is bigger than F1 Mclaren for building the Mclaren F1 super car is bigger than F1 for example.

but each team invloved in F1 needs or needed F1 to become as big as they are.

Would the Mclaren F1 be such a big name if it was not for the teams F1 involvement? or would it just be classed as a car like the Noble, Ultima, etc? What would Lotus be without it's racing heritage?

What would Ferrari be if Enzo did not want to build an F1 car?

If Williams and Renault rose to the top again, I wouldn't care too much. Similarly, if McLaren left and those two rose to the top, I wouldn't care. You can replace Ferrari or McLaren with Williams or Renault. If any single one left, my reaction would be the same. I'd be disappointed, but I'd get over it. Obviously, if most of the famous marques (Ferrari, Renault, Williams and McLaren) bowed out, it would take a while to get used to but, once again, I'd get over it. It would just be the turn of new teams to start adding to the sport's history.

I think it is sad to see any team leave, it does not matter how big a team they are.

I would love to see independants building cars in there garages again and pitting themselves agains the manufacterures. Like Colin Chapman and Bruce Mclaren, and co did. However I do not think times like that have long gone and we will never see any of that ever again.

It is sad to see that big multi national companies can not support an F1 team. Then again for a few thousand quid would not get you far in grass root motorsport

First of all Alonso and Ferrari are not quitting F1 if they introduce standardised engines. It is all just hot air by them. Secondly no team or driver is bigger than the sport. It is sad when any team has to leave especially when it is because of money but the sport will go on without them.

What the FIA must start doing is making it easier for independent teams to operate and reduce costs. They have tried to do this but considering that the FIA is run by an imbecile it will be left up to FOTA do get anything substantial done.

Completely agree and have done for some time now. The Cosworth engine coming back to the sport is a huge opportunity for this to happen, though it has to be on-par with the other engines. Budget capping, more open regulations and the use of lower-cost parts in the sport are also essential for new privateers to enter the sport. Remember, if it's too expensive, they won't be interested.

But McLaren is not widely known outside of their F1 involvement, and so they need F1 about as much as F1 needs them

TAG McLaren group would easily survive the loss of the F1 team mind, so this is a bad example, but the point is the McLaren name is only big within and because of Forumla 1, Ferrari has huge brand recogniion through their other businesses

Well, MM has been the lone caller in the desert about cost cutting for a long time. And he'd be responsible for bringing Cosworth back in - seems to me these are signs of a smart mind.
