How will standard engines help F1?

Yes they will reduce costs blah blah blah.

BUT if Ferrari have threatened to quit if we get standard engines...then...i'm thinking its not a great idea.

Am I the only one?

Oh yeah Fernando Alonso has also threatened to quit.

And Toyota.

????????

it depends, on how close a spec the engines have to be built too? I am sure a slight intolerance in a cam for example might create a bit more power in a certain area of the torque curve that might be advantageous for a certain track.

Ooop have I just let the cat out of the bag for still building your own engine!!!!!

...Well it's not.

No reasonable person on earth says otherwise.

Who needs Ferrari, Alonso and Toyatoa in F1 anyway?

And to cut cost, why don't they get rid of the drivers too? Surely the cars can be remotely controlled!

Put 20 exact same cars (different colours) on the grid, slap some sponsors logos on them and let us watch the ads!

I am sure I remember reading that Benetton did that in the early 90's as part of its active car program. To see if a fully automated car could run a lap

So whats the alternative?, running costs 300 - 400 million a year is ridiculous

it is not so much the running costs, it is income that is the problem.

What income has an F1 team got? Advertising? how much would you pay for you company to be on a bill board?

teams get alot of their money from sponsors, that was the main problem with Honda. Honda had to fit the bill for everything.

i guess even with the current climate people still need to buy Redbull, dunno why Rockstar or Mother are twice the size for the same price and taste just as good :hehe:

but Redbull have a few sponsors in their portfolio by the looks.

Ferrari and Alonso are 2 of F1s greatest things. Without them F1 would be crap. Fact.
