As a geek, I can honestly say the mere suggestion that a Thinkpad is superior to a MacBook Pro is insane. Apple make the world's leading notebooks guys, it's a fact.

As for Lenovo moving...Bad news for Frank' boys but it's unusual. Hardly seems like much of a get for McLaren

Thinkpads. :hurl:

Agreed - Chinese crap

Actualy IBM's are the best laptops you can get

They were crap under IBM and are crap under Lenovo.
Ever heard of Mac Book Pro?

Again, I have to disagree. Macs are a waste of space and money. The Mac operating system is almost pointless in its existence. Their recent abandonment (or at least, lower usage of) the PPC architecture in favour of 'normal' architecture, in the form of Intel-based systems, is at least a step in the right direction. But until the operating system is fast, stable and easy to work with (and I mean work with) and their price reflects their performance, I'll stick to buying something that has nearly identical specifications for less than half the cost :P

Should the pricing actually become reasonable, I might consider thinking about being tempted to buy one and install Arch or Debian on it. Maybe... :)

Only leading because people seem to keep going back for more, despite that being just as insane...

If the MacBook Pro was a racing car it would be the MP4-23, and an IBM would be an FW30, thats for sure. I understand Denthul totally though, don't get a mac unless you're loaded, or are very persuasive like me. But as for the operating system, again OSX is like an MP4-23 compared to Windows which is like a Stretched Humvee, in pink. As a programmer/web-developer/graphic-designer/musician i've never found computer work so fluent and intuitive. [/macRub]

I don't blame Lenovo, their needs are obvious. I hope Williams find some money for somewhere though.

I think my comparisons would be slightly different to yours :P

OS X would, fair enough, be the MP4-23, but Windows would probably be the F1.08 in its current form. Sure, it's got some problems, but it's a steady enough performer.

...of course, Debian with Openbox would be the MP4-4 :hehe:

I'd have to take your word for it. Only linux's i've tried is Ubuntu (for general use) and Pure-Dyne (for audio-visual work), and i just don't like getting my hands too dirty to be honest, not unless i have a real necessity to. Don't get me wrong, i think linux and open source in general is a wonderful thing but OSX gives me everything i need at the moment on a nice shiney plate.

anyway... F1 :D

I'm just jesting. Obviously, whichever operating system works best for someone is, to them, the best. There are advantages and disadvantages of each (see security and stability versus compatibility and user-friendliness). As long as everyone's happy, who cares?

And yes, F1...

...Microsoft should sponsor a team.

OS X is the F2008 (Need I remind you guys the F2008 was the car that won?), Windows though I'll agree is the F1.08.

Linux is the Renault

Hard to find more durable laptop than Lenovo R and T series, though X is not half-bad either, if pricey.

Mac Book Pro? You're a girl, right?

Define "superior".

I would expect, since Apple went Intel, that you will find Lenovo, HP, Toshiba... with same specs as Mac Book Pro. Heck, you'll find gaming notebooks with quad core CPUs, much better graphics, more RAM/HDD, BlueRay... no problem.

When it comes to computing on the move - a real stuff that defines usability of notebook - you will find many models from different brands offering secondary battery, swappable optical drive (for additional battery), docking stations and other portability-related things Apple is not offering.

On the other side, Apple has cloth for polishing screen. Cool... er...

Not that Mac Books are bad, but design aside, they are still too niche and too limited in terms of expansion to be ultimate notebook(s). Except for ultimate fashion computers.

Mac's are overpriced you can get a Lenovo Notebook that can do everything you would want to do with a PC for £350-400

all Mac's are good for is power users - vid editing and design.

while the Design industry revolves around macs i had to purchase one, a Macbook! though in doing so id never go back to a PC i do not miss the constant error messages, the need for virus scans, the component compatibility issues etc etc windows has toooo many bugs!
A Mac does everything i need it to do,mostly design and multimedia plus internet browsing, its stylish and user friendly! if i want gaming i have a PS3. blu ray? ill watch that on the TV as well.

Agreed.

As to why a MacBook Pro is superior, it's got a lot to do with the world's best Operating System, industry standards and industry-leading construction. MacBooks are the most popular line of notebooks (Fact, look it up) for a reason, and only part of it is their style (On that note, VAIOs are also fairly pretty. Thinkpads are...Ahem...Not)
