Ferrari may think it's bigger than F1 but it's not.

Correction, some of it's fans thin k it's bigger than F1 but it's not.

I think you misunderstood me. The Ferrari brand is more widely known and followed than F1. This isn't about the Ferrari F1 team, it's about Ferrari as a whole.

Cosworth used to be the de facto standard engine for a long time, so what's new?
And how many time have people lamented Cosworth's (forced) exit from F1 and called for their return. Well, here ya go - they'll be back (with a vengeance)! :hehe:

I've just had a thought. I was thinking that one of the major problems with the new rules is that it would be difficult to enforce parity between different engine designs.

But, if the teams have to use a standardised drivetrain, couldn't there be sensors in this drivetrain to detect various parameters, such as speed of rotation and stresses? From which the power characteristics of the engine could be reverse engineered? If that was the case, then enforcing parity would be easier.

As for Cosworth supplying cheap engines if 4 teams want it, actually, good idea Max.

Shame you only came up with that to try & bugger McLaren's deal with Force India but hey, the ends justify the means don't they?

Correction, I don't think Ferrari is bigger than F1, I think Ferrari IS F1.

On a real note regarding the Cosworth engines, are these engines involving Ford? Will they be Ford-Cosworth engines like they were in the past, or is it just Cosworth now with no Ford influence at all?

Ford doesn't own Cosworth any more. One of the articles I read said that the engine would be unbadged.

No, that's good! Ford are crap and they might go under anyway :P

i'm starting to like the idea more, especially now that cosworth are involved again, the engines don't make that much difference anymore anyway (force india running ferrari engines but at the other end of the grid for example), if they're all being brought in line to the same performance, standard engines or not, what difference does the badge on the engine make ? The big manurfacturers are putting too much money into the sport as it is, so i wouldn't be upset if manurfacturers with little racing pedigree, such as toyota and BMW were to pull out, and the true racers, Mclaren, ferrari, williams, remained (ferrari wont quit, they owe everything to their success in F1 )

Please explain

We currently have V8 engines in F1.

Right then what''s going on here.

The FIA revealed on Friday that they are in exclusive negotiations with Cosworth, along with gearbox specialists Xtrac and Ricardo Transmissions (XR), to supply a complete low-cost power train that will be made available to all teams. The engine will be based on the current V10 specification, while the gearbox will be an all-new, state-of-the-art unit.

No they are not. And there is more chance GM will go under than Ford. But I hope no one goes down and all are saved as it will not be good for anyone, no matter where in the world you may live if either Ford, GM or Chrysler were to go down.

why doesn't max throw in a standard chassis rule aswell and call it INDYCARS? what a terrible thought

Yes it will/would be a disgrace to F1 if this actually happen's and I am PO'd the idea is even being considered.

All of this is too complicated and polotical just use this simple plan:
1. Budget cap per team or car.
2. No rules except car must have open wheels, 2 wheel rear drive, standard size box for car and any appendages, and the usual safety rules.
