How many years before this happens???

F1 is heading towards an A1 style series from current proposals, so if they become so similar is it possible?
It has happened with the CART & IRL series in the USA, which was impossible to imagine years ago. So how is F1 immune from it?

The 2009 Indy Car Series will have 27 cars fielded by 15 teams. Its a lot healthier than F1 ATM. There will be 18 or 19 races this season.
Like A1, the Indy Car Series has a sole engine. By Honda!!! Out of F1 but still in Indy. They have been the engine supplier since 2006 and have the contract until 2010.

It seems that F1 is becoming less & less the leading formula and starting to follow Indy & A1. I hate the sound of that.

Isn't the guy funding A1 from the UAE? Isn't Honda a good chance of being sold to someone from the UAE also. Same guy? Start of the A1/F1 merger?
It a stretch I admit but not impossible.

Would a ? at the end of the title be appropriate?

scared the crap out of me then.

It will never happen

If you really believed "It will never happen" then it wouldn't have "scared the crap" out of you, would it?

And never say never.... it's heading towards those two series already.

Bernie wouldn't do it.

But seriously, it's a terrible idea. A1GP is a terrible category and the more like it F1 gets, the more I die inside.

If F1 and A1 merge then for me it will simply be :censored: F1. I will then just concentrate solely on Rallying which I love.

If they go to a control engine, what will be the difference between the two??
It will be largely reduced. They must realise this.
Control engine will turn F1 into A1 premium.
It sucks the big one.

In the end if a merge happens, Scuderia Ferrari will withdraw (Despite Ferrari being the engine supplier of A1). If Ferrari goes, I will have no further interest. Oh well at least with Rallying I don't really care which manufactuers are in it, despite having preference on several makes. And at least there I am never too emotional about who the winner will be. Healthier in the end I guess. :)

there wont be a merger, what we might see if more of the big manufacturers leaving, and therefore a return to more smaller private teams

A1's alright, but it's not a good idea merging the 2 series, the cars are way too different in almost every aspect even if the current chassis is a modfied Ferrari F2004 chassis. A1 has become quite a good breeding ground for new upcoming talent such as Hulkenberg a few years ago, and also for racing veterans such as Jos the Boss. The cars aren't designed to go 200mph like an F1 car either. But then again there's an A2GP series coming into play soon as well (or is that alredy in place?).
