Dont suppose im the first to mention this but, before Hamilton came in for that last gasp tyre change he was 20 seconds ahead of Glock, so lets assume he had stayed out as Glock did and that he got around safefully, (its possible he could have even increased that 20 sec gap or at least maintained it) looking at the published actual finishing times i reckon that would have put Hamilton 2nd ahead of Alonso and on the podium, what a final lap that would've been with the whole pack chasing Hamilton.

I think he'd have dropped too much time to the intermediate runners in the last two laps. Glock and Trulli were roughly twenty seconds off the pace by this time, and it wouldn't have taken too long for all the cars to come in and switch tyres. He'd have been easy-picking for any of those guys, so he made the right decision.

And it simply wasn't worth the risk of him dropping it. It's easy to know how hard it rained after the event, but so difficult to make that call in advance.

I think some of it would have been "if Massa pits then we'll pit" if Lewis pitted, and Massa hadn't and then the rain hadn't actually come to anything, he would have lost the championship....i'd hate to be the poor person who has to make these decisions!

Kimi pitted just before Hamilton, Massa a lap later.
Too much risk not to as was evident of the only two cars that didn't although that did pay off for one of those.
