I was having a conversation with a fellow F1 follower yesterday evening and we got on to the subject of the current crop of young drivers, that are often being touted as future champions. And of the list there are a number of likely contenders that could take the WDC over the next 10 - 15 years:

Hamilton (obviously just has)
Raikkonen (already has one)
Alonso (twice already)
Kubica (displayed a lot of talent!)
Vettel (who would argue against it?)
Massa (Came so close this year, aside from engine blow-up and pit crew mistake could have done it)
Rosberg (widely regarded as talented, McLaren were after him but in a poor car)

now the chances are that they won't ALL take a title, as you could certainly see at least one of the above taking multiple titles in the right car... so who of the above do you all think WON'T win a WDC (or another one) during their career and why? Go on, stick your neck out then stay tuned until 2025 to see if you were correct! :)

if I had to chose one from that crop i'd choose Rosberg, by a whisper.

Nelson Piquet Jr.

:P I'd have thought that was a forgone conclusion!! Ok, from the list I presented then... :)

Hamilton: maybe a 2 times champion
Alonso: 3 times champion
Massa: 1 times
Raikkonen: 1 times
Vettel: 2 times
Kubica: 2 times
Senna: 1 times

Would I be attacked if I said this was possibly Massa's one chance gone?
Rosberg you have to said at this present time - but who knows Williams may have a killer car next year.
And if Toyota pull out and back Williams they could be top once more with Nico. :D

Hamilton: maybe a 2 times champion
Alonso: 3 times champion
Massa: 1 times
Raikkonen: 1 times
Vettel: 2 times
Kubica: 2 times
Senna: 1 times

Think it is hard to judge the number of titles these men can win now surely due to the average ages of the drivers being pushed back so much. Heck look at Vettel he could race for another 20 years if he wanted to!

I was just having a shot at guessing how many they would win  who knows really. who knows who the big team will be in 5 years time and who will be the better driver ???

No no it's fine that you had a shot. I mean I'd probably agree with most of your list.
No worries. Though Alonso 4 would be nice - complete the set of Aces on the back of the helmet eh?

Vettel and Kubica have the best chance I think to win in the next 2 years.

I fear for Nico he has got the ability but not the car. But the guys that won't win one is Piquet Jr and Kovalianen. Nice guys but completely useless. I will amputate my own :censored: if any of the 2 win one!

I see censor what your going to amputate just in case they do win one. and then say 'it was my left toenail '

I'd say Rosberg, as there will be more chance of Vettel being given a championship winning car. But I can see Vettel disappearing into Red Bull "there or thereabouts" mode like Webber, and the excitement surrounding him fading.

Rosberg, and MAYBE Kubica.

Vettel looks like a sure-fire star, although i dare say the test for him is how well he does against a very fast team mate next year in Webber - he hasn't really had a good (or proven) competitor so far in Liuzzi or Bourdais.

Rosberg won't. Ever.

Kubica possibly (but I personally expect him to find his way to Ferrari at some point in his career) but he definitely has the talent so it's very probable he'll win it.

Massa I dunno. Never really rated him that highly in terms of raw skill, I still don't that much (no offence intended to Massa fans). What he has shown me this year though is an incredible amount of mental strength - the kind that combined with talent, which he undoubtedly has, can win championships. I suspect he'll be around for a few more years yet and challenging in every one of them. Whether he wins the WDC, I dunno. He might do a Mansell and be so close for so long and then win it at the very end.

Kimi winning it again totally depends on whether he genuinely gives a s*** anymore. I mean, not just caring about it but having that all-consuming desire to win. If not then nope.

Vettel - as for all drivers, if he finds himself in the right place at the right time in terms of team and car, then yeah, definite candidate for WDC.

Alonso is the strongest challenger right now and I think he will win it again.

Raikkonen won't win a title. He'll probably retire at the end of next year too.

Don't underestimate Rosberg, yes the FW30 was a pile of garbage but when it worked he was up amongst the front runners. Remember his Q2 time at Monaco when he was slower than Massa by a tenth of a second. And it did prove to be a quick car in low downforce setup so that bodes well for next year.
