True, but Hill was not exactly the world's greatest driver and the Williams FW18 was so superior to the other cars on the grid that it would be harder not win races when driving it. To be honest, it's a rather sad indictment of Williams' driver line-up that the title battle lasted so long in 1997.

Renault boss Flavio Briatore says his team will not be signing Toro Rosso driver Sebastien Bourdais as he is 'too old'.

The 29-year-old Frenchman has not signed a new contract with the Toro Rosso team and his future in Formula One is looking uncertain as a result.
The Renault boss has never been afraid to speak his mind and with current drivers former double world champion Fernando Alonso (27) and Nelson Piquet Jr (23) doing well in the business end of the season, he is unlikely to be looking for a replacement.

Flavio is a moron, Bourdais is only 2 years older than Alonso and if that logic is correct what was Flavio playing at when he signed Fisichella? I don't think Flavio's ever been a fan of Bourdais because he tested for Renault in 2002 I think and Flav wouldn't give him a seat.

I agree.

To be honest, Bourdais' performances at Monza and at Spa were superb and, along with a few other solid drives this season (not to mention out-performing Vettel in the old car) have earned him a place in Formula 1 next year.

I also agree that Flavio isn't the brightest, nor nicest, of men. Which is a shame, because I like Renault.

And even in the new car once Bourdais got it together from Valencia onwards he has been more than a match for Vettel at races like Spa and Fuji (before Mad Max got his penalty whip out ). And that doesn't half say something as his team-mate is Schumi's protege.

I like Flav. I find him funny. He wouldn't care at all about anyone's view in this topic.

That is, until I punch him in the face. I'm sorry, but he is just one of those guys that every other guy hates. He is a complete douche bag so of course he wont care what anyone here thinks, he has a 28 year old wife, and he likes to flaunt his money.

Also I would like to say that Bourdais' first season in Champ Car was way less then spectacular (like this season), but Paul Newman was smart to keep him onboard. And as a result he won them 4 Champ Car titles.

Here's a better idea Rive, sink his rubber dingy next time he decides to play havoc with any beaches.

Bourdais is a very good driver. He seemed to struggle a little in the early part of the season, but was cruelly denied points as a result of the Massa shunt, and has been robbed by reliability on a number of occasions too. Ok, he has had nowhere near some of the prodigal drives that Vettel has had, but he has been consistent and quick in my opinion. I honestly think if he were put in the McLaren in place of Heikki, or the Renault in place of Piquet he'd have picked up considerably more points than either of those two. I have no doubt that he'll display a bit more speed next season should he keep his seat and be able to help develop the new car to his own liking.

I hope Bourdais stays, he even thinks he'll do better with next years car.

Me too, I think he's been treated quite unfairly by the media. Let's not forget the four Champ Car titles. This man can win races and get on the podium if STR can keep improving next year. I think he's stacked up well against Vettel the last 6 races or so.

I think they're stupid if they get rid of him now. by all means bring in Buemi, jani or Sato, but keep Bourdais because I'm pretty sure he's helped Vettel this year too.

Just because he has been successful in CART does not mean to say that he will be a brilliant Formula One driver. Simply put, the gulf in standard between CART and Formula One is fairly big. In terms of Bourdais himself, he had a good start to the season, things went poorly in the middle of it, but now he has started to put in some good performances. Some bad luck and silly mistakes have cost him decent finishes, and, to be fair, he is an emotional person and the pressure of driving for his career got to him a little bit. That shows he is gagging to drive in Formula One, though, so Berger knows he is going to get a driver who is 100% committed. Some people take time to adjust as well, and I think Bourdais has the skill and commitment to put all the pieces of the jigsaw together next year.
