From F1 Fanatic.co.uk:

Doctorvee spotted a story about Max Mosley’s right-hand man Alan Donnelly trying to prevent the BBC bringing Martin Brundle on board as one of its F1 commentators for 2009.

Today’s Daily Mail claims:

Alan Donnelly, the official representative at races of FIA chairman Max Mosley, has been trying to dissuade BBC executives from employing Brundle, who has been at odds with the governing body since he questioned their handling of last year’s McLaren Spygate affair.

Last year the FIA announced it was suing the Sunday Times over an article of Brundle’s that described the McLaren-Ferrari espionage scandal as “a witch-hunt”. In a response, Brundle said:

I expect my accreditation pass for next year will be hindered in some way to make my coverage of F1 more difficult and to punish me. Or they will write to ITV again to say that my commentary is not up to standard despite my unprecedented six Royal Television Society Awards for sports broadcasting. So be it.

Which raises the question: did the FIA lean on FOM to replace ITV as Britain’s host broadcaster in an attempt to avoid having Brundle as a commentator?

As Vee writes:

If there was not a witch-hunt against McLaren, there is certainly a witch-hunt against Martin Brundle. It is yet further evidence that the FIA is scared of open debate and is only interested in hiding the truth. Mosley’s father would have been proud.

If the Mail’s report is correct is quite disgusting that the FIA should got to such lengths to avoid legitimate debate and discussion.

Martin Brundle is an excellent commentator and the BBC must not be cowed by such shameful bullying.

Brundle is the just about the only thing I enjoy about ITV's coverage. He's fair and balanced and actually knows what he's talking about. I'm glad he's going over to the Beeb. I hope they have a few "guest commentators" too. Maybe people like Dill etc.

I take it James Allen will be quietly taken out back and shot? Figuratively speaking of course.

James Allen will not be commenting for the BBC next season, thank god. Whether somebody else is stupid enough to give him a job, I don't know.

Apart from Brundle's grid walk, I've been impressed with him as a commentator. He's articulate, interested in the sport, knows what he's talking about, has experience of different types of motorsport, doesn't blow his own trumpet, can be quite funny and isn't afraid to speak his mind. It's no surprise, therefore, that Mosley would try to stop him commentating. Brundle's comments are backed up by sufficient evidence and experience, so are not unfair. Further, millions of people fought and died fighting against precisely the type of person Mosley is so we can enjoy the freedoms we have today. Mosley can f*** himself. :hitler:

James Allen will probably get picked to commentate on Football (imagine him getting overexcited as kick-off approaches) or even worse will go join Lenny Kravitz, and Coulthard's dream girl on ITV's Touring Car coverage... oh no that's such a horrible thought...

If the FIA ban Brundle from commentating on the BBC, not even words or profanities will show how disgraceful it would be. If the FIA are Nazi's then Brundle is Winston Churchill.

The FIA have, in recent weeks, actually made me want to not watch the sport. Spa may have been a big incident, but at that stage, nobody was serious about not watching anymore. If there is standardisation of major parts, like engines and KERS, and the FIA continue to interfere with matters that do not concern them, then I think a switch to watching the BTCC full-time may be in order :(

I think it's about time to do what the Allies did in WW2, march into Paris and liberate the sport from its dictatorous rulers.

And by that, a massive car park protest. ;)
