Alonso still eyeing future Ferrari seat
''I would very much like to be with Ferrari''
18/10/08 16:54

Alonso will still be just 29 at the start
of the 2011 season
Fernando Alonso has admitted he still harbours a dream to race for Ferrari one day.

The Spaniard was linked with the Italian marque this year, but it is now clear that - while weighing up a big-money offer from Honda - he is likely to stay at Renault for the 2009 season.

But he told Italy's Corriere dello Sport newspaper: "I admit that one day I would very much like to be with Ferrari."

"It's the best team in the history of Formula One, and it is clear that those who go with them, are part of history," the former champion said.

Ferrari has elected to stick with its current drivers, Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa, until the end of the 2010 season.

Alonso said the last two Grand Prix, which he won, have not compensated for a difficult season, because his only goal is to 'win the title or at least be able to fight for it.'

But he said: "I do not consider this a lost year. I have remembered that I love Formula One, and how to enjoy it.
"

The 27-year-old is believed to have been courted by BMW Sauber for 2009, but Alonso denies that the deal fell through because he would not have fit in at the team.

"I have raced karts since I was three years old. In the last 24 years I have been fine with all of my teams, except for one," Alonso said with reference to his disastrous spell at McLaren last season.

"It was the same team that had problems with Senna, Prost, Raikkonen and Montoya. Perhaps the problem is with the team rather than with the driver," he told Germany's Stuttgarter Zeitung.

It is a pitty he wont be going to Ferrari anytime soon. Alonso would be great for Ferrari no doubt and I love just how Alonso sees Ferrari. I couldn't of thought of the perfect words myself!

If it happens that way the timing couldn't be better. Hamilton with a couple more years experience, driving a McLaren against Alonso in a Ferrari. The rivalry would be intense.

Yes it would be. And further more Lewis Hamilton will have virtually the whole of Spain and Italy going against him. It will be the "El mundo Latino" (The Latin World) Versus "La Boca Grande" (The Big mouth). :hehe:

wasnt it only last week you were bagging Alonso and never wanting him in a Ferrari?? just like how at the beginning of the year you were bashing Massa wanting him out of Ferrari :hehe:

hard to keep up with you AKR

Actually I have always like Alonso. Remember he is Spansih and Spanish = greatness. Anything bad I may have said about Alonso was a joke, and before you rebutt that, you know very well it is true.

Always thought Kubica would find his way to Ferrari sometime soon enough. Never thought of Alonso driving for Ferrari but yeah, could very well happen. Doesn't really matter much I guess. The competition would be great whoever end up where.

Who knows what will happen. At the moment I can't see Alonso ever coming at Ferrari. Even after either Massa or Kimi goes there are so many other good options like Kubica and Vettel.

Alonso and Raikkonen at Ferrari, and Hamilton and Vettel at McLaren... that would be a pretty epic battle if it ever came about (not likely but it's fun to speculate :P ).

I hope Vettel never goes to McLaren. It would spell disaster for Ferrari. Vettel and Alonso both at Ferrari. By 2011 both Massa and Kimi should have retired. Although I am a funny on Alonso still. His comments have although won my likes on him more I must admit.

Well if he 'shunts' Lewis off the track in Brazil, he is almost certain to get a Ferrari seat Image

They should make a secret deal. Alonso shunts Lewis Hamilton off. Massa becomes world champion and as a deal for this bargain, Massa trades his Ferrari seat for Alonso's Renault seat. Then that way Massa still gets to be the World Champion and Alonso gets to drive for Ferrari and become world champion in 2009. If only it were all up to me to decide this fate. :hehe:

I should point out that Alonso is actually better looking than Lewis Hamilton.

And at least I don't want him to lose either. :hehe:
