Heidfeld: Lewis has yet to learn his lesson

Racechick: Heidfeld has yet to learn to qualify

Take his qualifying results from a year that he had a car that suited his style and you'll see that he's more than capable. He even managed to qualify on the front row last year, despite being in a car that was further away from the McLaren and Ferrari than this year's car was. This year's BMW Sauber is completely unsuited to his driving style, so of course he's going to struggle!

I honestly see your retort here as childish. Heidfeld's comments are completely valid. Last year, Lewis through the championship away by trying to win in Brazil when he could have just followed Alonso home. All he had to do was finish third in this race and he would have been fine. He lost his head and tried to get in front when it wasn't necessary. I'm sorry, but this time it isn't unfair criticism of 'your guy'. It's just a guy with a valid comment telling it how it is. Of course, nobody's opinion is allowed to be valid when they're not saying nice things about Lewis, regardless of whether or not they're true...

Ok my retort was childish, you're right. I didnt really read all the interview to be honest because Im just tired of thread after thread of "lets have a go at Lewis". Yes he makes errors and he needs to iron rhem out but people forget how young he is and how talented he is(well maybe they dont forget the latter but they dont like it). I dont see him through rose tinted glasses, I know he makes errors but when he stops making them then every driver better watch out. No gripe against Heidfeld, I like him and yes he's entitled to his opinion.

He's already shown several times this year he hasn't learnt his lesson with rash moves and very silly mistakes. Some people are just slow learners i guess.

And some people have limits (actually all people do). He is great driver comes to skill, but mentally maybe he just doesn't have what it takes to be champion. I mean, Kimi aside - all recent champions (Mika, Michael, Alonso) were rock-solid on the track, cool, focused. Great drive, sharp mind. No red veil in front of their eyes no matter what (well, not on track at least). And even Kimi, while not the same material, did win for managing to keep cool head when Lewis could not.

Remaining races will be darn interesting...

Heidfeld: Lewis has yet to learn his lesson
Monday 13th October 2008

Nick Heidfeld believes Lewis Hamilton's rash move on Kimi Raikkonen in Sunday's Japanese GP is proof that the McLaren driver hasn't learnt his lesson from last year.

In 2007 Hamilton was on course to win the World title, holding an impressive 17-point advantage over Kimi Raikkonen with two races remaining.

However, nerves and rash decisions cost the Brit his shot at the title, allowing Raikkonen to walk away with it by one point in the Brazilian GP.

And this year Heidfeld fears Hamilton is repeating those same mistakes after an impetuous start in Japan on Sunday saw him handed a drive-through penalty for pushing Raikkonen off the track.

"I thought Hamilton would have learnt his lesson from last year," crash.net quotes the 31-year-old BMW driver as having told Motorsports-Magazine.

"He was told by his team in the last race to go steady. As far as I can see from the action replay, the scrap on the first corner wasn't necessary. Hamilton didn't need to do that."

Ferrari, though, have also been making mistakes with Felipe Massa also penalised after he put Hamilton into spin. The Brazilian did manage to recover to seventh place, closing the gap to Hamilton to five points with 20 still to play for.

Heidfeld summed it up best, saying: "McLaren and Ferrari have done have done themselves no favours."

Should I add :beans: to this thread to, just because he is also telling the truth?

Just as bud said, if Heidfeld was deciding to help one team or another, yes. Alonso's remarks are the sign of a bitter and twisted tosser. I hope he's enjoyed his 2008 season. :hehe:

Yeah, that was just plain low and miserable. Of course he hasn't got much love for McLaren, but privately cheering for one team is on thing, and publicly announcing that (and promising support!!!) is completely different. Guess he's just trying to suck up to Ferrari hoping for seat there... lame excuse, anyway :nono:
