For exactly the same reason the English FA would never throw Man Utd or Chelsea out of the Premier League, because they would have lost too much money if one of the two top teams were not in the Championship this year, simple economics, and money talks, especially to Max and Bernie.

It may have had something to do with McLaren Electronics already having a contract to supply the standard ECUs for 2008 onwards. If they'd banned McLaren the team (and the whole of McLaren Group with it) would probably have ceased to exist and they'd have had to either unban traction control or put up with a rushed job with different ECUs which would have been full of bugs, and all the teams would have had to readjust and redesign their cars.

I don't know about that. They threw Juventus out of Serie A for 1 year after the Calciopoli scandal and in Serie A, Juventus is like Manchester United in the Premiership........
