What is the gesture Fernando makes when he opens and closes his fingers with his thumb? I have noticed this ever since Fernando came on the competitive scene yet I haven't got round to asking about it. Please, anyone know? :wavey:

His Spanish dances are also pretty funny. After the tough race yesterday, however, it doesn't surprise me that he was dancing. :hehe:

He had to wait a year to do the dance so he had plenty of energy saved up for it. :hehe:

Yeah. The dances are a trademark of Fernando. It was poetic justice after his upset in quaifying. Absolutely the ultimate reward. I just cannot understand what that gesture is meant to be though, I was wondering if it was some sort of Spanish wave. It certainly looks funny :D

Hi everyone!

It's the first time I write here

I just was reading this post an it made me laugh because it's true, how would you know what that gesture means?

Well, I'm here trying to explain you, it's not an important meaning, it's only to show his happiness, here we call tat hand move "the birdies", i think it came from an old spanish child song called so, In the follow link there is a Tv spot from ING in which they show most os the gestures he usually did.

I hope this will help you undestand, I'm so happy of seeying the birdies yesterday...

Kind of reminds me of Frentzen on the podium at one of the races in 1999 (Magny-Cours, I think). He was so tired that he had to sit down and glug his champagne rather than dance around. :P

Oh thank you. I got the general idea, even though I don't know any Spanish. It's also interesting to see Fernando demonstrate his winning gestures also  He must have a good sense of humour :) I guess all the Spanish fans recognise it when he does it, that must be a nice feeling when they see him doing that :cloud9: Thanks for your explanation

Whatever I really admire him, and I hope to see more and more birdies. thank you for your answer
