Finally..... both Williams in the top 10 for the first time in 2 years, they look heavy on fuel too and are probably expecting the safety car to come out and also for a pile up in the pitlane.

Well done Naka and Nico.

2 years?!?! Hopefully one of em will have a chance of a podium if there is a safety car, however i'm not banking on it after what happened in Valencia.

I think Singapore is tighter and rougher than Valenci-yawn, and that narrow double chicane will cause havoc on lap 1 at least.

Poor Alonso. I had really high hopes for his race, given his speed in free practice. Good to see that Raikkonen is somewhere on the pace in qualifying today, perhaps he can try and pull something off to get a car between Massa and Hamilton, or even in to the lead of the race. I think everyone from Kubica backwards is on a much different strategy to the front three - perhaps there's also some safety car paranoia in there, given the number of incidents that have happened over the weekend so far and look like they may continue to happen in the race tomorrow.

And, finally, Heidfeld seems to be back on form. :)

Yes was a bit shocked to see Alonso not do well at all. Goes to show practice means nothing and only qualifying counts. Nice to see Williams do well as well. I still have that soft spot you know.

it wasn't really his fault though he had a fuel pump issue.

Well, what an interesting session. First of, I was surprised how bumpy the circuit is. It's great to see the cars bottoming out and moving around and the drivers and engineers being forced to correct this. The track looks exciting to drive around, but there are few places for overtaking. If we see lots of exterior shots tomorrow, things may get a bit boring, but some onboard shots of the cars wriggling around may live things up a bit. Rain, of course, would be welcome as well. Also, the cars looked great under the lights. The Ferrari looks great, but I think the McLaren just edged it. That said, I don't want all races to be held at night. It's a nice novelty and should be kept as that.

I feel a bit sorry for Alonso. He would definitely have been on the first or second rows had his car not have packed up on him. Piquet's performance was disgusting once again. Piquet has had more than enough time. The excuses are getting boring. Formula One is the highest class of motor racing. Constant and inexplicable failure cannot be tolerated.

It's as well for Hamilton that Alonso did not get to set a competitive lap time. Contrary to what ITV said, McLaren did not waste time and prevent Hamilton from doing another run. When Hamilton came into the pits after messing up his initial attempt, there was not quite enough time to get an extra run. The time was used to make a few tweaks to the car. I think he was also on the option tyre when he exited the pits, which is not as good as the prime tyre for a couple of reasons. Even so, I do accept that he was a bit ragged in Q2. Kovalainen's fifth position looks poor, but he has probably got a lot of fuel in the car relative to all of the guys ahead of him. In fact, I dare say Kubica is running on fumes. Hamilton's second is not bad, but not brilliant. He did make a few errors in the first two sectors of his final run which definitely lost him a couple of tenths, but, again, fuel is a factor. I would put a lot of money on Massa running a lap or two lighter than Hamilton.

Vettel and Glock both put in good laps in cars that weren't really handling the bumps too well. When you consider how far they are above their team mates (and, in the case of Toro Rosso, Red Bull) you can see what a good job they did.

It's good to see Williams in the top ten. They're not as fast as I thought they would be, but the cars are probably loaded with fuel. The chances of a safety car or something are pretty high, and if that does happen, they'll certainly gain a lot.

I didn't know that, well I do now. Dam that sucks. Would of been great to see Alonso up there with all the other top guns.

Nice one for Kovi, with more fuel on board he was almost as quickas Massa in 2nd sector and faster than Kimi and Lewis
At the begining of q3 i had a feeling that RK is heavier than NH but later I wasn't so sure, so either good one from NIck or Kubica just was brilliant.

I have a feeling for a nice race but not sure about overtaking on track. And the view over night is spectacular.
Can't wait till tomorrow

Im intrested to know how much fuel Hamilton put in for final qualifying considering he was running fumes to get by in quali 2

I imagine he wont be running any longer than anybody else
#68457
Why do I see everyone talking about the "view>" Sure it's really pretty, but when did motor-racing become a circus? The entertainment should be coming from the on-track racing between cars and drivers, even if the view was terrible and the colors drab. This mockery of racing will drive away real racers who have racing in their blood.

On top of it all, it's a new track - they could have built it specifically to accomodate a few overtaking corners, but NO. Bring back the 70's.

Hamilton is running light. Massa is running lighter still. That's my educated guess anyway.

They tried to do that at Valencia and look what happened...

That was all of our guesses after Massa passed both McLarens on the first corner of the Hungarian GP and we were all therefore wrong. So who knows what the situation is. I think it will be close regardless of the what the starting fuel loads are.

True. McLaren had better hope Hamilton is heavier than Massa, for if he is not, he won't be passing him on the track.
