Williams were testing some 2009 parts at Jerez this week.

3 guesses what parts we can blame Mosely for.

Woah, i thought the rear wings were meant to be wider than that! Same goes for the front wing, and there still seems to be a bunch of aero crap of the sidepods.

The only reason it looks weird is because it is a 2009-spec part on a 2008 car. With the lack of winglets, slick tyres, wider chassis and larger front wing, it would look completely normal.

That's just this year's car with next year's rear wing stuck on it.

It looks weird at first but it'll look much better when it's glued onto the back of the FW31. To be honest the rear wing has actually always been the same width, it looks smaller on the pre 1998 cars because of the space between the wheels and the wing. But it'll look nicer when the cars are widened out and have no ugly flip ups all over the place.

I believe so as the amount of "planes" on the wings are restricted, so I can imagine the top section plane going over the nose will be ditched.

Let's hope so, they look ridiculous. I can't completely see the point of running a part 2009 part 2008 spec car, at a guess i'd say to see how the changing of certain elements affects the car's overall performance compared to a fully '08 spec car... but at the same time maybe the setup characteristics would change again depending on other factors. Or something

Well seeing how Williams are now fully committed to 2009 but have had the FW31 being designed and built since the start of the season, I guess they're just giving the components a shakedown.

probably just running it down, testing it under loads! any data gained will be mostly irrelevant because the rest of the package is still 08 format

Still, they look ridiculous. Unless this provides some serious overtaking, I say stick with the old rear wings.
Its really the first picture that gets me. The gap between the tyres and wings is just odd looking.

Anyways, hopefully theres something that makes it look less humiliating on the actual 2009 car.

To be honest, the rear wings for next season do look a little bit odd. Also, as they are smaller, some sponsors will not be happy, which, for a team like Williams, is hardly a good thing. A simpler, more aesthetically pleasing solution that will also keep the sponsors happy is simply banning rear-wing endplates, reducing their size, or having single-decked rear wings. The FIA always have to over-complicate the issue.

Endplates are prime sponsor surfaces...
