What is happening to Heikki at Mclaren?

You could tell from his expression on the podium and during the post-race interview: very glum.

so its another they were hindering him theory ?? :yikes: like any racer who finishes second they are glum....

I don't think that's what anyone is saying.... I think he just expected to do better... as he should have.

Not true, there are many drivers who beam like a 5-yr old on his birthday when they get 2nd place.

No, I think McLaren/RD EXPECTED HK to win this thing, but he didn't.

i think Heikki was pissed he didnt win because he himself expected to being in a McLaren along side a Torro Rosso but i do not think McLaren hindered Heikki one bit at all

Thing is, Vettel ran the race with a downforce level that would not have been too suitable for wet conditions, but still kept his car on-track and dominated the race. He's definitely going to be amongst the future title-contenders, joining guys like Hamilton and Kubica (and Rosberg if Williams improve their performance-level). :)

yes he drove away with that setup but its easier when theres no spray infront of you! saying that Heikki didnt make any inroads even when Seb V was 11 s ahead!

Huh? not sure what you mean with your second sentence
At any rate, HK should have been able to close in on SV despite the rain (see LH).

Im saying its easy for Seb to pull a gap being infront but once the gap once big enough to not affect Heikki with the spray vision wise Heikki still couldnt make any inroads! so obviously many factors come into play to anylise this, track condItions... tyre wear, setups. fuel loads, driver skill and most importantly timing

Yeah, I felt like HK, FM, LH and KR all had chances to pull of some moves but it looked like none of them would have caught Vettel... it was his day to win.

I think if it had rained at half-distance and Hamilton had not had to pit for inters he would have been extremely close to Vettel and probably beaten him. However it didn't happen that way and as I am fond of saying "all's well that ends well"

Well, I agree on both - nobody but you were talking about McLaren preventing HK from winning and yes, HK strangely didn't make any inroads once he was out of the spray behind SV. Maybe Hanwombat has some insight here :P

well before Vettel pitted again Hamilton was only 1 second behind him! so if it did rain again he would have been in there for the win for sure

if it had rained, he would have been the only one on wets and would have won by six laps... stuff happens.

Take note the guy driving the car that belongs to the company that comes from....... And I quote:

We are McLaren. We have the best facilities in Formula One. We exist to win.
:whip::whip:

What the hell is wrong with I said? McLaren have one of the biggest budgets in Formula One. They have the best facilities in Formula One, with the Technology Centre, Brand Centre and kick-ass simulator, and a fantastic history in Formula One, and also some other forms of motorsport. That's not arrogance. That's the bloody truth of the matter. And who are you to lecture anybody about arrogance. Ferrari and their fans are most pompous, delusioned and arrogant people in Formula One. The tifosi think that because they sport a red Ferrari top that they are allowed to berate the fans of other teams and non-Ferrari drivers at Grands Prix.

Anyway, this thread is about Vettel, so I shall now talk about him. Today, his performance was simply wonderful. Fair enough, he did not have the spray to deal with, but, even so, his pace was amazing and he handled the pressure extremely well. He did a good job of backing up the cars before the race start proper. His comments after the race pleased me as well. He sounds like a genuine character, doesn't complain and doesn't blow his own trumpet. Remember this Grand Prix. The racing was classic and we've seen a guy with the skill to win several word titles win his first Grand Prix.

Kovalainen should be absolutely ashamed himself. I'm disgusted that a McLaren driver should perform like that in a race-winning car and have the cheek to make excuses about it afterwards - shades of Alain Prost's pathetic comments after the 1993 European Grand Prix. The conditions were the same for everybody, Kovalainen was not the only one with problems and he was completely owned by Vettel and Hamilton - Hamilton who started the race practically from the back of the grid! Shape up, or ship out Kovalainen.

While we're all praising Vettel, I think a word about Bourdais is in order. He was a lap down at the end of lap one and he was a lap down at the end of the race. Who knows how high he could have finished if he had actually started in fourth.

That's one of the reasons why I'm having some trouble in deciding who was driver of the day. Hamilton drove superbly. I lost count of how many overtaking moves he pulled off. Had it rained even a little bit, he would have won the race unless, say, a technical problem intervened. But that's racing and Vettel's victory was really well deserved. He dealt with the pressure and it was amazing how it kept the car on the track at times going as fast as through the corners on a dry setup as others on a wet setup. If Vettel wasn't driver of the day, he was driver of the weekend nevertheless.
