Well they need to create a defence system that can break apart the astoriods. And after they succeed in doing that, direct some of the smaller debris rock to land or crash land/hit the McLaren factory in Woking. That would be awsorme for sure. :hehe:

I'm afraid no defence system would work against a rock that big!

Putting the McLaren jokes aside, they (NASA, the ESA, the RSA etc) need to deveolp such system as if it actually happens that a big rock heads this way we will be able to save ourselves. Otherwise it will be another "Atalantis" type castropaphy (How do you spell that damm word!). Although Atalantis was submerged some 40,000 years afo for different reasons, the advanced civilisations of the time were very much wiped out and the surviving peoples had to start again. So if life as we know it survives a big rock collision, most knowlege will also be wiped out and we would have to begin again and perhaps another 40,000 years from now we will see another advanced human civilisation on Earth. To avoid this and allow us to continue at out present rate without such setbacks we need to learn now how to defend ourselves from such dangers. We have the means and technology to do so, I am sure of this. They just need come up with something and test it somehow as well. Who knows maybe they are already doing this. They have talked about it many times. Do you really thing no one is actually doing nothing about it given we know of the grave dangers that may lay ahead?

Atlantis was not real haha

Are you certain about that? I have done much research on the subject to suggest otherwise. Although to you this may seem stupid but think of the following scenario. Lets say a catastrophie were to happen tomorrow and the world as we know were very much wiped out. Lets say that there are only 100 human survivors. These 100 people carry on to continue the human existance. All have knowlege of things like cars, skyscrapers, planes, astronomy, medicine etc. But none know how to build or implent these things. Also all accounts of written history would be destroyed with only limited knowledge held by the survivors. Within only a few generations all knowledge will be lost and be more the less the stuff of legend and story.......just like Atlantis. So once again how do you know Atantis never really existed?

I have to say that I believe that Atlantis existed and still exists in some form.
Generally, myths have some basis in reality and we have evidence for a number of cities that have subsided into the ocean. For example, part of Greek Alexandria fell into the ocean, and you can still find evidence of habitation under the water. It is true that over time the myth has been embellished time and again, with the addition of technology and various abilities attributed to the Atlanteans, but this happens with most mythology.

I am sure that in time the issue will be resolved as long as we can strip down the myth to its bare bones and work on theories. I think it may involve tectonic shifts which led to an earthquake in which the place known to us as Atlantis sank. Plus, to be fair there is far too much evidence in mythology that there laid a city called "Atlantis".

if it happens it happens. worrying about it will not make a difference.

and with the credit crunch, who is going to spend trillions of pounds on some sort of "Star Wars" defence system for the earth.

with lasers and a moon base

Well if we want to prevail then someone has to. In all honesty I don't think it is all that complicated. You don't need to actually destroy an astroid that is heading for Earth. All that needs to be done is to divert it off its path so it misses. So bascially any weapon launched at an astroid only has to be powerful enough to change its path or trajectory, rather than destroy it. Infact destroyibg it could be worse because it would be highly likely that it would just breakup into smaller rocks and still head for Earth. In that scenario the result would be little different and we would still all be doomed.

The evidence is big if we could go into deph but very hard on this forum. Basically from what I have studied, the continent of Atalantis went down or sunk around 40,000 years ago due to Earthquakes etc. These were cause by the Alantians themselves with all their mining etc. Apparently they were advanced enough to have basic flying machines (Never to be seen again until AD 1903), uncontroled nuclear explosions (Never to be seen again circa AD 1940s) and lasers (Never to be seen again circa AD 1960s). This means this human knowlege was lost for over 40,000 years! Imagine it wasn't? How advanced would we be now? Surely we would be travelling the stars and galaxies by now..........................
