Kubica: I don't like status of being in F1.
Sat 30 Aug, 05:33 PM

BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica admits that being in the spotlight is one of the downsides of Formula One.

Robert Kubica has confirmed that he is planning to leave his homeland for good after being unable to cope with the fame that his ascension to Formula One has brought.

Essentially a private person, the Pole has admitted that he will be looking to put down roots somewhere else in order to escape the attention he has attracted since making a breakthrough with BMW Sauber in 2006, claiming that he would only return to Poland in order to visit his family.

Former F3 rival Lewis Hamilton recently set up home in Switzerland after insisting that press intrusion into his private life - and that of his family - in the UK had become too much to bear, while double world champion Fernando Alonso made similar claims about the attention he warranted in his native Spain.

"I am proud of what I have achieved as a driver," the 23-year old Kubica told Swiss newspaper Blick, "but I certainly do not drive in Formula One in order to be popular. With the exception of what happens on track, I do not like the status of Formula One. I do not need the spotlight.

"The people see me as an example, that it is possible to make it somewhere like Formula One, even if they live in a country without a motorsports tradition. We had a few rallies, but that's it. I think I have opened a few doors but, if I want to go for a jog, there is always someone right there to follow me.

"It really has become impossible to come back in order to relax. To relax properly is important to give you enough energy. I like playing cards and bowling - I have enough adventures on the track, so I need less exciting things for my hobbies."

 Kinda like deja vu right? That is a perfect example of why I'm alway's complaining about keeping a thread on topic.

I'm not sure what he's talking about, but there is a distinct difference in the way the two act in front of the camera. Lewis is more camera-friendly, whereas Kubica would rather avoid the attention (though is still respectful in that he will answer questions and let Brundle interview him). Similarly, I think that Kubica appreciates his fans but doesn't want to spend his time being revered, as it is. I don't think Lewis milks them for the worship, but I do think his attitude towards them definitely differs from Robert's. I think Robert would prefer being treated just as one of them, you know? Like going for a pint with them instead of signing their merchandise. Provided he was a drinker, of course :P

Yes I can see thats one way of looking at it. Another is that lewis tries to please but is naive about how his actions are iterpreted, he is not good at hiding his true feelings and desires. Robert is a more canny player and is happy to take no prisoners.

Robert 'Take me or leave me, here I am, i am fantastic, I am a future champion and stuff you!'

Lewis ' Here I am, I am fantastic, I am a future champion and I'm actually a nice guy and its inportant to me that you see that.'

I prefer lewis as you well know but actually i think Robert's mental attitude may be the stronger. i cant really fault Robert but I hope Lewis wins out.

I don't see that as being the case. He's a fairly humble fellow, really. I just don't think he wants to be portrayed as anything more than a regular guy, but unfortunately his profession doesn't allow for that. I think there are a lot of drivers out there who feel the same way, to be honest.

Humble in some ways, yes but eyes on the big prize ( and why not) in that way he and lewis are the same. To me the difference is that Robert cuts to the chase while Lewis is worried about impressions. Im not criticising Robert here, i think he has the better mindfrme for the job, I just prefer lewis.

I hope everyone realize's, racechick , that to reply to a SPECIFIC quote you do NOT have to list every other reply made to your reply! My meaning, incase you missed it, is that there a 5 quote's within the last reply that were unnecessary .

The 'quote' option is your friend so learn to use it.

Not good at button pressing tex :) I tend to adopt the random option of pressing. You win some ...you loose some. You can imagine me trying to record a TV programme :rofl::rofl: And you also know about my problems posting photos....So lots of quotes may be what you're stuck with  Computers should be more logical and not so stupid!!

I understand,

Robert just doesn't give a f***... where as Lewis does...
He'd rather turn up with his hair all over his place, or say something random and unscripted.
At the same time, neither are doing anything wrong. People can present themselves however they see fit.

Kubica has grew up without the large backing that most other drivers on the grid have had, he is less prone to the open media etc. His determination to get into F1 has now become a determination to be champion. I don't think he has much time for other things lol

Now I'm really confused?
